Protective Function Configuration Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 21 5 Pr o tective Function Configuration 5.1 Overview This chapter explains how to set the parameters for the protective functions of the ISGS r elay . Password All parameter changes require a passwor d.
Protective Function Configuration 22 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 5.3 High-Set Instantaneous Phase Overcurr ent (50HS) The High-Set Instantaneous Phase Overcurrent function causes an undelayed trip when any individual measured phase current exceeds the pr eprogrammed threshold (pickup value).
Protective Function Configuration Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 23 5.6 Phase Time Overcurrent (51) The Phase Time Overcurrent function uses a selected time overcurr ent characteri stic curve to determine the trip time for the applied phase currents.
Protective Function Configuration 24 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. protective curve that integrates with instantaneous reset. The lower limit of the custom curve is 1.
Protective Function Configuration Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 25 The Directional Phase Time Ov ercurr ent function can be enabled or disabled (1901). The Curve parameter (1902) allows the selection of the pre- programme d characteristic curve used by this function.
Protective Function Configuration 26 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. The range of the pickup value (2003) depends on the sec- ondary phase neutral CT rating (1 A or 5 A) and the value is in secondary amperes. The function begins timing when any individual neutral current exceeds the pickup current setting.
Protective Function Configuration Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 27 The Undervoltage function can be enabled or disabled (2301). The Curve parameter (2302) allows the selectio n of a definite time delay or a characteristic curve. When the definite time characteristic is selected, the time delay begins as soon as the device goes into pickup.
Protective Function Configuration 28 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. When the curve is set to inverse, the Max T ime parameter (2456) sets an absolute maximum amou nt of time that the function will remain in pickup regar dless of the inverse curve.
Protective Function Configuration Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 29 The 50BF Breaker Failure function can be enabled and dis- abled (2801). When enabled, the protective function begins monitoring the current flow in the circuit following a trip com- mand by the relay .
Protective Function Configuration 30 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. Demand calculations are made every subperiod (3103, 3104, or 3105). The number of subperiods depends on the length of the demand interval and is based on 10, the mini- mum number of monitoring intervals in a subperiod.
Control & Communications Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 31 6 Contr ol & Communications 6.1 Matrixing Events to Outputs One of the powerful functions of the ISGS relay is its ability to send control outputs based on inputs from the r eal world.
Control & Communications 32 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. Matrixing Procedur e The following steps provide a detailed description on how to matrix the ISGS relay manually using the front panel LCD and keypad. Before matrixing the re lay , ensure that power is applied to the relay which is indicated by the lit system LED (green).
Control & Communications Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 33 6.2 Binary Inputs Binary inputs are optically-isolated voltage level sensors with a fixed threshold. The input is considered activated if voltage above the threshold is applied and de -activated if no voltage or voltage below the threshold is applied.
Control & Communications 34 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 6.4 T rip Contacts The ISGS relay of fers up to three trip contacts which are monitored by the micr oprocessor . T rip contacts may be con- figured by the user to trip the relay based on any of a number of functions.
Control & Communications Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 35 The T rip Source Impedance parameter (8301) can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, the circuit periodically monitors the trip s.
Control & Communications 36 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 6.8 Breaker Operations Count Breaker Operations refers to the number of times the device has opened the breaker . The Breaker Operation function allows the setting of the breaker monitoring parameters.
Control & Communications Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 37 Binary Outputs (7409) displays the output contact status as illustrated in Figure 6.
Control & Communications 38 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. Figure 6.4 V oltage Balance Threshold Monitoring is done when the maximum voltage is larger than the voltage balance pickup value . The voltage is considered balanced and will not cause an alarm if the voltage min/max ratio is larger than the voltage balance factor .
Control & Communications Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. 39 Figure 6.6 Current Balance Thr eshol d Failure of this check will cause an event Current Balance Error .
Control & Communications 40 Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. and, therefor e, apply to both sets. Examples ar e protective function enable settings and matrixed output contacts such as waveform buffers and blocking. All parameter set func- tions require a passwor d.
