IGWiPS200-1 INTRODUCTION This publication describes installation of the Siemens Wireless Process Solution (WiPS) 200 Seri es Two-W ay Multipoint- To-Point Radios and I/O Expansio n Modules.
IGWiPS200-1 Each transceiver and each I/O Expansion m odule has bus conn ectors on both sides of its c over: a male connector on one side, a female connector on the other. A transceiver and several I/O Expansio n modules can be physically interconnected by way of th eir bus conn ectors and then snapped onto a sect i on of DIN rail as a single unit.
IGWiPS200-1 PRODUCT SUPPORT When contacting Siemens for support: • Please have co mplete product information at hand: • For hardware, this information is provid ed on the product nameplate (part num ber or model n umber, serial num ber, and/or ve rsion).
IGWiPS200-1 INSTALLATION This section provi des installation proce dures for a WiPS 200 Series wirel ess network. A wireless net work contains a master transcei ver and up to e ight remote (i .e. slave) transcei vers. I/O Expansi on modules pr ovide the network wi th additional analog, digital, and pulse I/O ca pacity.
IGWiPS200-1 DANGER Electrical shock hazard Explosion hazard Will cause death or injury. • Remove power from all wires and termin als before working on equipment. • In a potentially hazardous atmosphe re, remove power from equipment before connecting or disconne cting power, signal, or other circuit.
IGWiPS200-1 Changes or modifications not ex pressly approved by Si emens will void the user’s authority to operate the equipment . This product is intended fo r fixed installation applications .
IGWiPS200-1 ANTENNA CON NECT OR S AND S URGE VOLTAGE PROTECTION Each transceive r has an MCX fem ale antenna connect or. The base 3-1/2" , 1/4-wave whip antenna has a n MCX mal e connector. Opt ional higher ga in antennas an d low-loss co axial cables have type-N connectors.
IGWiPS200-1 Control Room At the contr ol room, there is one master t ransceiver and c omplementi ng I/O: one analog output m odule, and one digital out put modul e.
IGWiPS200-1 A. Analog Output and Digital Output Fault Respon se Selections Three I/O m odules (4-Cha nnel Analog Output Mod ule, 8-Channel Digital Out put Module , and Combi nation Input/Output Module.
IGWiPS200-1 Pulse Output Module (See Figure 18 on page 26) There are two DIP s witches for each channel: switches 1 a n d 2 for channel 1, switche s 3 and 4 for channel 2.
IGWiPS200-1 MOUNTING THE DIN RAIL At each installation site, mount the DIN rail and DIN rail mount modules (e.g. tra nsceiver, I/O modules, powe r supply) in a NEMA enclosure appropriat e for the environment and hazardous ar ea classification. Re fer to Figure 3 for transceive r and I/O m odule dime nsions.
IGWiPS200-1 Each module h as a moveable, sp ring-loaded m ounting li p to assist in m ounting a m odule, sliding a module along the DIN rail, and removing a module from the DIN rail. This lip has a slotted tab so the blade of a small screwdriver can be inserted and the lip levered away from the rail.
IGWiPS200-1 MOUNTING THE 1/4-WAVE WHIP ANTENNA Mount the 3-1/6" (80. 4 mm) high, omnidirect ional whip a ntenna 5 , sh own at right, within 5' (1. 5m) of the transceiver to allow the supplied 6' (2m) cable to easily reach between the antenna and transceiver.
IGWiPS200-1 Electrical Connections – Power and I/O connections are completed through screw actuated compression terminals. Connector bl ocks can be rem oved from a m odule for wiri ng, as shown i n the two fig ures below.
IGWiPS200-1 Transceiver Wiring Examples Five transceive r wiring exam ples are provide d below. Figures 6 , 7, and 8 s how typical transceive r wiring for 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wir e current loops. Figures 9 and 10 show two variatio ns on the wiring for a loop powered external analog device.
