7 Intro duction These operating instr uctions desc ribe the Gig aset 3000 Comf or t handset in conn ection with Hicom cordl ess E at Hicom 300/30 0 E/30 0 H. All functions that can be perf or med via y our handset are descr ibed. Y ou may discov er that cer tai n handset func tions are not availab le as required.
8 Intro duction ● Each handset can log onto and be used by up to 4D E C T systems . Features of the Hic om cordless E ● Internal and e xter nal calls in the entire Hicom cordless E radio networ k ● The user can roam throughout the en tire radio network and still rece ive all internal a nd external calls a t one call number (roam in g).
9 Intro duction ● The devices offer a high level of privac y . No protection can be guarant eed against il legal bugging using o ther radio receivers. ● When operating the handset, a basic distinc tion is made between: – telephone/switching functions, e.
10 Intro duction ● Depending on the environment, the range in the o pen is up to 300 m per base station. ● In buildings, the range extends up to 50 m per base sta- tion (dependin g on the room and building l a yout and con- struction).
11 Preparing the handset ● Hold the handset with the diall ing ke ypad facing down- wards , se e Fig 2. A battery compartment for 2 batteries is located in the l ower part of the handset. ● T o open the batte ry compar tment, pre ss the groov e s and slide the lid downwards in th e direction of the arrow , see Fig 2.
12 Preparing the handset The batter ies supplied (NiCd) are not charged . T o charge the batteries, inser t the handset into the Gigaset 3000L chargi ng shell with the d ispla y f acing up wards .

14 Preparing the handset Y ou can fit the supplied attachment clip t o your handset if required. Place the attachmen t cl ip on the b ac k of the handset. There are holes on the side s of the handset approximately lev el with the display . Press the clip tow ards the handset until the clip’ s side tabs click into pl ace in the handset hol es.

16 Preparing the handset This allows you to protect your handset against inadver tent key activation , e. g. when carr ying it in your bag. Calls are signalled even if the ke ypad is locked and can be answered in the same w a y as when the te lephone is on .
17 Display The handset f eatures a 4-line displa y with 16 characters pe r line. De pending on the situation, the displa y sho ws: ● digits , e. g. dialle d numbers ● text , e . g. the c urrent base (system) ● symbols, e. g. ringing o r batter y symbol ● and in the las t line the current functions of the two dis- play k eys.
18 Display The two display ke ys are located di rectly under the d isplay . The current fun ctions of the displ a y ke ys are s ta tus-depend- ent and are displa yed in the low er displa y line. Each displa y ke y can be used to dis play one or two functions.
19 Display Function selection using men us (hand set f unctions) The currently sel ected (highlighted ) function is displayed on a dark background . A dotted line indicates the end of the menu. If you scroll fur- ther , the first function in the menu is selected again.
20 Display Function selection using displa y keys (when a call is in progress, service men u) When a call is in prog ress , the displa y ke ys ; an d < can be used to call up different functions, e. g.: F o r e xample , y ou can use the di spla y k eys ; and < to scroll to the next function when a call is in progress .
21 Logging handsets onto a telephone system Y ou must open a "logon wind ow" in the telephone system and then log on the handset before you can use it to make telephone cal ls. This is only required when the hand set is put into service for the first time .
22 Logging handsets onto a telephone system ● Open the logon windo w with the seco nd telephone . An "Optiset E" Hicom tele phone is used here b y w ay of example to demonstrate the procedu re: ● T ake your handset and log it on to the sy stem (see page 23).
23 Logging handsets onto a telephone system This procedure must b e performed if you hav e not yet used your handset and are l ogging it on to the s ystem for the first time. This procedure m ust be perf or med if you w ant to log y our handset on to ot her systems.

25 Logging handsets onto a telephone system Y ou can activ ate the "ISDN Config" function to define one call nu mber that can be ac cessed internally an d exte rnally in the entire radio net work (networ k roaming). Proceed in the s ame wa y as described abov e to deacti vate the function.
26 Conducting calls This display when the tele- phone is on is a prerequisite and the initial statu s f or all tele- phone function s, see page 10. -! H , , or a different name can also be displayed, depend- ing on the current base, see page 54.

31 Number redial Y ou hav e dialled a number, b ut the other par ty i s busy or does not answer: pre ss the on-hook key . The last fi ve n um- bers dialled (up to 32 digi ts) are always stored automatically . If you dialled a number from the t elephone director y , then the name is dis play e d when you use the redial func tion.

34 Number redial All the digits of a number (up to 32 digi ts) are displayed. Y ou want to pre vent other persons from using t he number redial function to redial digits (e. g. PIN) that you entered. This disabling function allows you to bar number redial for these digits.
35 Entering te xt Y ou can e nte r name s or text f or specific functions (local tele- phone director y , shor t cuts, mes sages) via the digit ke ys. The following tab le shows the assignment o f all.

37 T elephone directory Y our hands et has a teleph one di rectory f or storing up to 10 0 numbers . The stored numbers ca n be simply dia lled, modified or deleted at any time. Note: Numbers from the n u mber redial memory can also be transferred to the telephone d irector y , see page 32.
38 T elephone directory The telephone directory - enables convenient dialling of approximately 100 call numbers. Y ou can store the prefix numbers of ot her locations using the network prefix M function.
