3 Read and follow this manual, make sure anyone using the unit does likewise. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury or machine failure. Keep this manual for future reference. Always wear a hard hat to reduce the risk of head injuries during operation of this machine.
4 IMPORT ANT! Safety and Operation Information Labels: Make sure all information labels are undamaged and readable. Immediately replace dam- aged or missing information labels.

7 Assembling tube sections Place powerhead/lower tube assem- 1. bly on a clean, flat sur face so that both assemblies fit end to end. The powerhead/lower tube assembly should be facing positioned with the locking hole in the tube end facing up. Assembly and adjustments (continued) Slip of f the protective plastic 2.
8 W ARNING! Alternative fuels, such as E15 (15% ethanol), E-85 (85% ethanol) or any fuels not meeting Shindaiwa requirements are NOT approved for use in Shindaiwa gasoline engines.
9 Storage - Fuel storage laws vary by locality . Contact your local government for the laws affecting your area. As a precaution, store fuel in an approved, airtight con- tainer . Store in a well-ventilated, unoccupied building, away from sparks and ames.
10 Slide ignition to ON ON Throttle Lock Button Make sure the attachment is clear of obstructions! ...and pull recoil starter handle upward Hold the unit rmly .
11 Starting A Flooded Engine Slide ignition to OFF OFF Idle the engine briefly before stopping (about 2 minutes), then slide the ignition switch to the “O” (Engine OFF) position.
12 Adjust the shoulder strap so the shoulder pad rests comfor tably on the of f-side shoulder and the cutting path of the cutting attachment is parallel to the ground.
13 Prior to each work day , per for m the following: Remove all dir t and debris from the ■ engine, check the cooling fins and air cleaner for clogging, and clean as necessar y . Clean any debris or dir t from the ■ cutting attachment. Check the entire unit for leaking ■ fuel or grease.
14 spark plug gap--all models Remove the spark plug and adjust the gap at the electrode 10/15 hour maintenance 0.6 mm (0.024 inch) Remove and replace the fuel filter element. Use a hooked wire to extract the fuel ■ filter from inside the fuel tank.
15 V alve adjustment 135-Hour Maintenance IMPORT ANT! If a new gasket is not available and/ or the old gasket is not damaged, the old gasket may be reused. Never use cracked or damaged gaskets! T ur n engine over several times, and 6. retur n to TDC-compression.

17 Whenever the unit will not be used for 30 days or longer , use the following procedures to pr epare it for storage: Clean exter nal par ts thor oughly . ■ Drain all the fuel from the carbure- ■ tor and the fuel tank. Long T er m Stor a ge Remove remaining fuel from the ■ fuel lines and carburetor with the fuel drained from the fuel tank.

19 Is the engine overheating? Engine is rough at all speeds. May also have black smoke and/or unbur ned fuel at the exhaust. Operator is over working the unit. Carburetor mixture is too lean. Improper fuel ratio. Fan, fan cover , cylinder fins dir ty or damaged.
