Connectio ns 12 Connecting t he power cord Plug the power cord i nto a 120 V , 60 Hz, grounde d AC (3-prong ) outlet . Caution! Do not plug the power cord in to any other kind of outlet . This will damage the m achine and is not covere d under the warra nty .
Connecti ons 13 1. Installation Connecting the tel ephone li ne cor d Insert one end of the line cord into the jac k on the back of t he machine marked TEL. LINE . Insert the other end into a standard (RJ1 1C) single- line wall telepho ne jack. Note : The fax machi ne is set for t one diali ng.

Loading th e Imagi ng Film 16 Loading the Imaging Film Y our fax use s a roll of imagi ng film to cre ate print ed text and imag es. The p rint h ead in the fa x app lies he at to t he im aging f ilm to trans fer ink to the pa per . Fo llow the s teps b elow to load or rep lace the fi lm.
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 17 1. Installation 4 Remove the us ed film from the cartri dge. 5 Remove the four green gear s from the used film . DO NOT DISCARD THE FOUR GREEN GEARS! 3 Rem ove t he imag ing fi lm ca rtri dge from t he print compartment (grasp th e hand le at the fr ont of the ca rtri dge) and tu rn it over .

Loading th e Imagi ng Film 20 11 Rotate t he lar ge gear to ward you until the fi lm is t aut. 12 Clos e the p rint c ompa rtmen t cove r (press down on both sides t o make sure it clicks into pl ace), and then close t he operation pane l. 13 Load paper in the paper tr ay and then press the fo llow ing ke ys to initia lize the fi lm.
Loading th e Imagi ng Film 21 1. Installation When to replace the imagi ng film Replace t he imaging film when the displ ay shows: FILM END Use the f ollowing imaging f ilm, whic h is avai lable fr om your deal er or reta iler: Sharp UX-3CR Imagi ng Film all.

Sending Documents Err or Correct ion Mode The fax m achine i s set to automa ticall y correct any di stortions in a transmis sion due t o noise on the te lephone line bef ore print ing at the receivi ng end. This funct ion is ca lled Error Corre ction Mo de (ECM).

Any number from 2 to 5 can b e sele cted. 1 Press th ese keys: The displ ay will sh ow: 2 Enter th e desire d number of rings (any number from 2 to 5) .

Usin g TEL Mode 76 3 If the f ax doesn' t respond, or if the other pa rty fir st talks to you and then want s to send a fax, press 5 , * , and * on the ext ension ph one (only on a tone dia l phone ). This si gnals the fax to begin recepti on. Hang up.

Substitute Reception to Memory In situ ations whe re print ing is not possible , such as when your fax runs out of paper , the imag ing film n eeds replacement, or the paper jams, inc oming faxes w ill be receive d to memory .
81 5. Making Copies 5. Making Copies ♦ Y our fax mac hine can a l so be u sed to ma ke copies. Single and multiple c opies (up to 99 pe r original) ca n be made, enabling your fax to doub le as a convenien ce office copier . 1 Load the d ocument(s) face down.

Making Tel ephone Cal ls 87 6. Making Phone Calls Hold Y ou can put the other part y on hold dur ing a conversat ion by pressing the HOLD/SEARCH key . When this is done, t hey cannot hear you. Y ou can put the handset bac k in the cr adle without br eaking the connecti on.
