3 INTRODUCTION Using the manual This m achine has been designe d to provi de conven ient cop ying fe atures in a minimu m amou nt of offi ce space an d with maxi mum oper ationa l ease. To get f ull use of all machine feat ures, be sure to f amili arize yo urself with thi s manual and the m achine.

PREP ARA TION S 8 [ZOOM] key Pre ss to select an en largeme nt or redu ction ra tio. To s elect a preset ratio setting, press the [ZOOM] key and select the desired pres et rat io.
9 CONNECTING THE PO WER CORD 1 Ensure t hat the power s witch of the unit is in the OFF position. 2 Plug the power cord in to the nearest outlet. PO WER ON AND OFF The pow er switch is locate d on the left side of the m achine. Power on Turn the p ower switch to the "O N" position.
PREP ARA TION S 10 Power off Make sure that th e machine is not in operation and th en t ur n the power switch to the " OFF" position. If the power switc h is tu rned off while the machine is in operat ion, a misfe ed may o c c u r a nd the job tha t was in progress will be canc elled.
11 2 Chapter 2 LO ADING P APER The tray l ocation indica tor will blink w hen there is no paper in th e selected paper tray, or w hen the select ed paper tray is not closed or is impro p e rly closed. P APER For best re sults, use only SHARP recommended pa per.

14 BYP ASS FEED (including special paper) The bypa ss tray can be used to feed sta ndard paper, tra nsparency film , labels , envelop es, and other special purp ose pape r. Important points when in serti ng paper in the bypass tray Up to 50 s heets of st andard copy pa per can be in serted in the bypa ss tray.
LO ADING P A P ER 15 Loading paper in the bypass tray 1 Open the bypass tray an d extend the tray. 2 Set the by pass tray pa per guides t o the paper w idth. Insert the paper (print face down) a ll the way into the bypass tray. 3 Press the [TRAY SELECT ] key ( ) to s elect the byp ass tray.

17 3 Chapter 3 MAKING COPIES This ch apter explain s b asic copying functions. NORMAL COPYING Using the document glass 1 Open the document cover/RS PF, and plac e the original f ace down on the documen t glass. [How to plac e the origin al] Align th e original with the original sc ale and the centr ing ( ) mar k.
MAKING COPIES 18 Removing the document cover To copy large or iginals like new spapers , remov e the docum ent cover . To remove the cover, lift straigh t up as shown . To replace th e cover, do the reverse . The RSPF can not be removed. Using the RSPF 1 Make sure that an original has not been left on the document glass.
MAKING COPIES 19 Origina ls that cannot be used in the RSPF The follo wing originals cannot be u sed. Thes e may cause misfeeds or sm udging and unclear i mages. • T ran sparenci es, tr acing pape r , other tra nsparent or tr anslucent pap er , and photog raphs.
MAKING COPIES 20 Setting the number of copies Press the numeric keys to set the numbe r of copies. The set num ber of copies ap pears in the disp lay. A maximum of 99 copies ca n be set. If you w i s h to make on ly a sing le copy, co pying is possible wi th the display show ing "0".
21 MAKING A COPY D ARKER OR LIGHTER Automatic exposure a djustmen t is initially enabled. This function autom atically adjusts the copy imag e according to th e original b eing copied. If y ou wish to se lect the expo sure level you rself, follow the steps belo w.
22 REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Copies c an be reduced do wn to 25% or enl arged up to 400% . (When the RS PF is being us ed, the zoom c opy ratio rang e is 50% to 200% .) The [ZOOM] k ey can be pressed t o quickly selec t a ratio from among eight preset rat i os .
23 4 Chapter 4 CONVENIENT COPY FUNCTIONS A UT OMA TIC TW O-SI DED CO PYIN G Two origin als c an be automatically co pied onto both sides of a single sh eet of p aper. When the RSPF is used, t wo-sided copies of two-sided originals can e a s ily be made.

31 CREA TING MARGINS WHEN COPYING (Margin shift) The margi n shift function is used to aut omatically sh ift the text or image or the co py paper approx imately 10 mm. As show n below, LONG ED GE or SHORT ED GE can be selected. 1 Place the o riginal(s).

36 INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE Using the machine with a USB connection 1 The USB cable must not be connected to the machine. Make sure that the cable is not connected before proceeding.
INST ALLING THE SOF TW ARE 37 7 To install al l of the softwar e, click the "Standar d" button and go to step 12. To install part icular packages, click the " Custom" button a nd go to next st ep. 8 Click the "MFP Driver" button.

INST ALLING THE SOFTW ARE 40 Using the ma chine as a shar ed printer If the machine will be used as a shar ed printer on a network, follo w these steps to install the pri nter driver in the clien t co mputer. 1 Perform steps 2 thr ough 6 i n "INSTALLING THE S OFTWARE" (p.

In Wind ows Vista/7, the "Add Network Port" button doe s n o t app ear. 6 Select the networ k printer that is shared an d click the "OK" button. Ask yo ur network a dministrator for t he server name and prin ter name of the machi ne on the netw ork.
42 SETTING UP B UTT ON MANA GER Button Ma nager is a softw are program that w o rks with the sca nner driver to ena ble scannin g from the m achine. To scan using the mach ine, Button Ma nager must be l inked with the scan menu on the mach ine. Follow th e steps below to link Button M anager to sc anner even ts.

46 6 Chapter 6 PRINTER FUNCTIONS This ch apter explain s how to us e the printer f unctions. The proce dure for loading p aper is the same a s f or loading copy paper. See "LOADING PAPER" (p. 11). The machine includes a USB conne ct o r as standard equipment.
47 B ASIC PRINTING The follo wing example explain s how to print a do cument from WordPad. Before pri nting, make sure that the correct size of paper fo r your do cument has been loaded i n the machine. 1 Start WordPa d and open the document that you wish to print.
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 48 Opening the printer driver from the "Start" button You can o pen the printer dri ver and change the printer driv er setting s from the Windows "St art" button. Settin gs adjust ed in this way will be the initial settings when you prin t from an a pplicati on.
49 PRINTER DRIVER SETTING SCREEN Some rest rictions exi st on the co mbinatio ns of setting s that can b e selecte d in the printer dri ver setup scree n. When a rest riction is in ef fect, an informati on icon ( ) will app ear next to the set ting. Click the ico n to view an explanat ion of the restricti on.

PRINTER FUNCTIONS 51 1 Click the "Main" tab in the printer driver setup screen . 2 Select the number of pages per sheet. If y ou wish to print bo rderlines, ch eck the "Border" box .
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 52 4 Select the actual size of paper to be used for printing (B5). The size of the pr inted image w ill be automa tically adjus ted to matc h the pap er loade d in th e machin e.
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 53 Enlarging/reducing the print image (Zoom) This func tion is used t o enlarge or re duce the i mage to a selec ted percentage. This allows you to enlarge a sm all ima ge or add ma rgins to the paper by slightly reduc ing an image .
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 54 Printing faint text a nd lines in black (Text To Black/Vector To Black) When pr inting a colour image , colour text an d lines that are faint c an be printed in black. ( Raster data suc h as bitmap im ages canno t be adjus ted.) This al lows you to bring out colour text a nd lines that are faint and di fficult to see.
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 55 Adjusting the brightness a nd contrast of the image (Image Adjustment) The brigh tness and contra st can be ad justed in the pr int settings when printing a photo or o ther image. Th ese setti ngs can be used for sim p le corrections whe n you do not ha ve image ed iting sof tware installed on your compu ter.
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 56 Adding a watermark to printed pages ( Water mark) Faint sha dow-like t ext can b e added to the background of t he printed im age as a waterma rk. The size , density , and angle of the wat ermark text can be adjus ted. The text can be selected fro m a pre-stored list, or e ntered to creat e an origi nal watermark.
PRINTER FUNCTIONS 57 Two-sided printing The mac hine can print on both sides of the paper. This fu nction is usef ul for many purposes , and is particularly conv enient when you want to create a simpl e pamphlet. Two-sided printing also he lps conserve paper.
58 SA VING FREQ UENTL Y USED PRINT SETTINGS Settings c onfigured on each of t he tabs at the time of print ing can b e saved as us er settings . Saving frequ ently used set tings or com plex col our settings under an assigne d name makes it ea sy to selec t t hose settin gs the next time you nee d t o use them.
59 OUTLINE OF THE PRINT ST A TUS WINDO W When pr inting be gins, the Print Sta tus Window aut omatically op ens. The Print Sta tus Window is a utility that monitors t he machine and shows the na me of the doc ument being pri nted and any erro r messages tha t occur.

SCANNER FUNCTIONS 65 Outline of Button Manager Button Man ager is a software utility tha t allows you to u se the sca nner functi on at the machin e. Button Mana ger allows yo u to confi gure six set s of scanning settings as a scan m enu on the ma chine.
SCANNER FUNCTIONS 66 Scanning from the operati on panel of the machine (Using Button Manager) 1 Press the [MODE SE LECT] key to select scanner mode. The " SCAN " indi cator lights up to indicate that scann er mode is sele cted. 2 Make sure that the "SCAN USING: USB/ NETWORK" is shown on the display.
67 SCANNING FR OM Y O UR COMPUTER The mach ine supports the TWAIN standard , making it po ssible to scan f rom TWAIN- com pliant appli catio ns. Th e mac hine a lso s upports WIA (Windo ws Im age Acquisi tion), making it possible to scan from WIA-complia nt applic ations and the "Scanner and Camera Wizard " in Windows XP.
SCANNER FUNCTIONS 68 5 In the "S canning Source " menu, select the location where you placed the original in St ep 1. • If you pla ced a one-sided original in the RSPF, select [SPF ( Simplex)]. • If you plac ed a two-sided o riginal in t he RSPF, select [SPF (Duple x- Book)] or [SPF (Duplex-Tablet) ].
SCANNER FUNCTIONS 69 Scanner driver settings The scan ner dri v er setup screen consists of the "Set-up screen", which lets you sel e ct scan settings, and the "Preview screen", which s hows the scanned image . SCANNER FUNCTIONS 71 Scanning from a WIA-co mpliant application (Windows XP/Vista/7) If you are using Windows XP/ Vista/7, you can use the WIA drive r to scan from WI A- comp liant applic ations. 1 Place the original th at you wish t o scan on th e document gl ass/ RSPF.
SCANNER FUNCTIONS 72 Scanning from the "Scanne r a n d C amer a Wizard" (Windows XP) The proce dure for scannin g with the "Sca nner and Camer a Wizard" in Windows XP is expl ained here. Th e "Sca nner and C amera Wi zard" lets you scan an image without using a WIA-com pliant app lication.
