2 ACCESSING THE WEB SERVER IN THE MACHINE When the machine is connected to a network, the machine's built-i n Web server can be accessed from a Web browser on your compute r. 8 PART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS Exterior (1) Docum ent cover This holds the original down. (2) Automatic document feeder This automatically feeds a nd scans multiple originals. Both sides of 2-sided originals can be scanned at once. (3) Docum ent feeder tray Place the originals i n this tray when u sing the automatic document feeder.
9 Interior (16) Main power switch This is used to power on the machine. When using the fax function or Internet fax function, always keep this sw itch in the "ON" po sition. (17) Bypass tray Special types of paper can be fed fro m the bypass tray.

11 LOGOUT Main power indicator [CLEAR ALL] key Press this ke y to redo an operation from the beginning. All settings will be cleared and operation will return to the initial state. Numeric keys These are used to enter the number of copies, f ax numbers, and other numbers .
12 USING THE TOUCH PANEL The touch keys that appe ar in the touch panel ar e grouped for easy opera tion. The layout and fun ctions of the touch keys are exp lained below. Using general keys (1) When the displayed screen is one of two or more screens, us e the keys to switch th rough the screens.
13 USER AUTHENTICATION When user authentication is enabled in the system s ettings, you must log in before using the machine. User authentication is initially disabled.
14 PLACING ORIGINALS The automatic document feeder can be used to auto matica lly scan many originals at once. This saves you the trouble of m anually feeding each original. For originals that cannot be scanned using the auto matic document feed er, such as a book or a documen t with notes attached, use t he document glass.
15 CHANGING PAPER IN A TRAY To change the paper in a tr ay, you must load the desired pa per in the tray and t hen change the tray settings in th e machine to specify the loade d paper.
16 Changing the tray settings When you change the pape r in a tray, the tray settings in th e system settings must also be changed. 1 Press the [SYSTEM SETTINGS] key. 2 Configure the tray set tings in the touch panel. Some of th e settings only appear whe n you have administra tor rights.

20 MAKING COPIES This is the most basic procedure fo r making copies. 1 Press the [COPY] key. The base screen of copy mode ap pears. 2 Place the original. When using the document glass, place th e original with the side to be scanned f ace down. 3 Set the number of copies and then press the [COLOUR START] key or the [BLACK & WHITE START] key.
21 2-SIDED COPYING (Automatic Document Feeder) You can use the automatic docume nt feeder to make automa tic 2-sided copies witho ut the bother of manually turning the or iginals over and re-insert ing them. This section explains how to copy 1-sided or iginals onto both sides of the paper.
22 COPYING ON SPECIAL PAPER (Bypass Copy) Use the bypass tray to copy on special types of pape r such as heavy paper, envelop es, and tab paper . This section explains how to load A4 heavy paper in the bypass tray. 1 Place the originals. When using the document glass, place th e original with the side to be scanned f ace down.

24 SELECTING THE EXPOSURE MODE For a clearer copy re sult, select an exposure mode appr opriate for the original type. 25 FITTING THE COPY IMAGE TO THE PAPER (Automatic Ratio Selection) You can co py an original o nto any size o f paper us ing automatic enlargement/reduction. 29 INTERRUPTING A COPY RUN (Interrupt Copy) When the machine is busy printing another job, you can temporarily stop the job and make a co py. This feature is usef ul when you need to make an urgent copy durin g a long copy run. 1 Touch the [Interrupt] key.
30 STORING COPY OPERATIONS (Job Programs) You can store a grou p of copy settings. The settings can be called up and used whe never needed. When you frequently u s e the same grou p of settings, t his saves you the trouble of ma nually selecting the settings each time you need t o use them.
31 Calling up a job program Deleting a job program 1 Press the [#/P] key ( ) . Place the original. 2 Touch the numeric key of the desired job program. Set the number of copies and start copying. 1 Press the [#/P] key ( ) . 2 Delete the job pr ogram in the touch panel.

33 SPECIAL MODES The special modes can be used f or a variety of special-purpose cop y jobs. This section introduces the ty pes of copies that can be made with the special modes.
34 SELECTING A SPECIAL MODE The procedure for se lecting settings for a special mode is explained belo w. The settings that must be selected vary for each special m ode, however, the general procedure is the same. The procedure for selecting settings for "Adding margins (Margin Sh ift)" is explained below as an example .

Printing Printing 43 This section explains the basic procedure for printing using the pr inter driver of the machine. The settings that can be selected in the pr inter driver are also introduce d. The explanations of screens and procedures are pr imarily for Windows ® XP in Windows ® environments, an d Mac OS X v10.
44 PRINTING The basic procedure for pr inting a document or image f rom your computer is exp lained below. The procedure shows how to pr int an A4 size document using WordPad. 1 Select the print command in the application. (1) Open the [File] menu. (2) Select [Print].
45 3 Select print settings. (1) Click the [Paper] tab. (2) Select the paper size. (3) Click the [OK] button. 4 Click the [Print] button. Printing begins.
46 CANCELLING A PRINT JOB You can cancel a print job if you ca nc el before prin ting actually begins. 1 Press the [JOB STATUS] key. 2 Cancel the job in the touch panel. (1) Touch the [Print Job] key. (2) Change the print job status mode to [Spool] or [Job Queue].
47 USING PRINTER DRIVER HELP When selecting settings in the pr inter driver properties wi ndow, you can di splay Help to view explanations of the settings. 1 Open the printer driver properties window. (1) Select the printer driver of the machine. (2) Click the [Preferences] button.
48 PRINTER DRIVERS When using the printer funct ion of the machine, you can configure a variety of set t ings in the printer driver properties window. Th is section introduces the type s of printer drivers and the printer driver settings.
49 SELECTING PRINTER DRIVER SETTINGS The procedure for se lecting settings in the pr inter driver is explained below using "Fit To Paper Size" as an example. The Fit To Paper Size funct ion is used to automatically enl arge or reduce the pr int image to fit the selected p aper size.

60 SELECTING THE EXPOSURE AND EXPOSURE MODE The exposure ca n be set to match the darkness of the colours in the or iginal and the exposure mode can b e set to match the original type . This section explains how to darken a lig ht or iginal and set th e exposure mode to "Text".
61 CHANGING THE FILE FORMAT The file format (file type and compr ession method) for se nding a scanned imag e is specified when the destina tion is stored in a o n e-touch key; h owever, you ca n change t he format at the time of transmission. The procedure below explains how to send a scanned image in full colour T I FF format.
62 STORING A DESTINATION The procedure fo r storing e-mail addresses in o ne- touch keys for Scan to E-mail is explained below. Stored e-mail addresses ca n be entered quickly and easily. If you frequent ly send images to the sa me group of desti nations, the e-mail add resses of those destina tions can be stored as a group.

66 CONVENIENT TRANSMISSION METHODS Convenient transmission functi ons are available such as on e-touch sending and r esending that make it easy to send an image. One-touch key A destination sto red in a one-touch ke y can be called up by a simple touch of the key.
67 Speed sending When you store a individual ke y or a group key, a 3- digit search number is assigned. You can select a dest ination using the key and the 3-digit sea rch number. To check a search number, prin t the appropriate list in the sending address list menu in the system settings.
68 SPECIAL SCAN MODES The special modes make it possible to perf orm a variety of scan transmission s for specific purposes. The following pages sho w the types of scan transmissions that can be performed. (Th e procedures for using each special mode ar e not explained.

Document filing Document filing 73 The document filing function is used to store the document or print image on the hard drive when pe rforming a copy, print, or other job. A stored file can be cal led up and used whenever needed. This section introduces several of th e document filing functions.
74 DOCUMENT FILING The document filing fun ction allows you to save the document data of a co py or fax job, as a file on the machine's hard drive. The file can be called up as neede d and printed or transmitted. Uses of the document filing function Store a file quickl y and easily with "Quick File".
