Loading the Imag ing Film 15 1. Installation Loading the Imaging Film Y our fax uses a roll of imaging film to create printed text and images. The print head in the fax applies heat to the imaging film to transf er ink to the paper . F ollow the steps below to load or replace the film.

Make sure the stack edges a re even. 2 Insert the stack of paper into the tray , PRINT SIDE DO WN . • If paper remains in the tray , tak e it out and combine it into a single stack with the n ew paper .

Bef ore you begin sending fax es, enter your name and fax (telephone) number as explained below and set the date and time as explained on page 21.

Setting the Reception Mode 23 1. Installation Setting the Reception Mode Y our f ax has four modes for receiving incoming f axes: FA X mode: Select this mode when you only want to receiv e fax es on your line. The f ax machine will automatically answer all calls and receiv e incoming fax es.

26 2. Sending F axes T ransmittable Documents Size and weight The size and weight of documents that y ou can load in the documen t feeder depend on whether you load one page at a time or sev eral pag es at on ce. Note: Letters or graphics on the edges of a document will not be scanned.

Y ou can use this method to dial a full number when you don't need to speak to the other par ty before f axing.

Make sure the numb er that appears is the number you wish to dial.

Sending Fa xe s A utomatic redialling If you use automatic dialling (including Direct K eypad Dialling) to send a f ax and the line is busy , the f ax machine will automatically redial the number. The f ax machine will make two redial attempts at an inter val of five minutes .
Sending a Fax by Automatic Dialling 38 Error Correction Mode Important: This function is only availab le on the FO-P630. The f ax machine is set to automaticall y correct any distor tions in a transmission due to noise on the telephone line be fore printing at the receiving end.
Sending a F ax F rom Memor y 39 2. Sending Fa xe s Sending a F ax From Memory Y ou can sca n a docume nt into the fax’ s memory and send the document from memor y . This increases transmission speed and allows you to send a f ax to multiple destinations in a sing le operati on.
Sending a Fax From Me mory 40 Memory transmission Y ou can also send a fax through memor y when sending to a single loca tion. This is conv enient when sending to locations where the line is often busy , as it sav e s you from w a iting to pick up the original document and frees the feeder f or other operations.
41 3. Receiving Fa x e s 3. Receiving F axes Using TEL/F AX Mode T o select TEL/F AX mode, press until the arrow in the displa y points to TEL/F AX. R ECEPTION MODE When the reception mode is set to TEL/ F AX, your f ax machine automatically answ ers all calls on two rings.

Optional Reception Settings 48 Reception Ratio The f ax has been set at the factory to automatically redu ce the size of received documents to fit the size of t he printing paper. This ensures that data on the edges of the document are not cu t off. If desired, you can turn thi s function off and hav e received documents printed at full size .
Substitute Re ception to Me mor y 49 3. Receiving Fa x e s Substitute Reception to Memory In situations where printing is not possible, such as when your f ax run s out of paper , the imaging film nee ds replacement, or the paper jams, incoming fax es will be received to memory .
50 4. Making Copies Y our fax machine can also be used to make copies. Single and multiple copies (up to 99 per original ) can be made, enabling y our fax to doub le as a conv enience office copier. 1 Load the document(s) face down. (Maximum of 10 pa ges.
