3 1 Getting star ted GETTING ST AR TED This chapter provides basic inf or mation f or using the copier . INTR ODUCTION This copier has been designed to provide intuitiv e operating ease while requiring a minimum amount of space. T o get full use of all copier f eatures, be sure to f amiliarize yourself with this manual and the copier .
4 1 Getting star ted CA UTIONS F ollow the cautions belo w when using this copier . ● The fusing area is hot. Exercise care in this area when remo ving misfed paper . ● Do not look directly at the light source. Doing so may damage y our ey es . ● Do not switch the copier r apidly on and off.
5 1 Getting star ted MAIN FEA TURES High-speed laser copying ● Since warm-up time is zero , copying can be star ted immediately after the pow er switch is tur ned on. ● First-cop y time is only 9.6 seconds (nor mal mode). ● Copying speed is 15 copies/min.

8 1 Getting star ted COPIER INST ALLA TION Improper installation ma y damage the copier . Please note the follo wing dur ing initial installation and whene ver the copier is mov ed. If the copier is mov ed from a cool place to a war m place , condensation may f orm inside the copier .
9 1 Getting star ted COPIER INST ALLA TION Be sure to allow the required space ar ound the machine f or ser vicing and proper ventilation. A small amount of ozone is produced within the copier during operation. The emission le vel is insufficient to cause an y health hazard.
10 1 Getting star ted LO ADING COPY P APER This copier is equipped with two paper tra ys. Load copy paper into the two paper tra ys. Raise the handle of the paper tra y and pull the paper tra y out until it stops. Adjust the paper guides on the paper tra y to the cop y paper width and length.
11 1 Getting star ted Gently push the paper tra y back into the copier . After loading cop y paper , to cancel the blinking “ P ” without restar ting copying, press the clear ( ) ke y . The “ P ” in the display will go out and the ready ( ) indicator will light up .
12 2 Making copies MAKING COPIES This chapter describes basic copying functions and some other cop ying functions using the b ypass tra y . NORMAL COPYING This copier has two document input stations - a single pass f eeder (SPF) for automatic document feeding and an original tab le for manual handling of documents .
13 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING Place the original(s) face up in the document f eeder tra y or f ace down on the original tab le. A. When using the SPF: (1) Mak e sure that no original is left on the or iginal tab le. (2) Adjust the original guides to the siz e of originals.
14 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING Tens digit Units digit When cop ying a book or an or iginal which has been f olded or a cr umpled original, press down the original cov er lightly . If the or iginal co v er is not securely closed, the copies ma y be str iped or b lurred.
15 2 Making copies NORMAL COPYING Stream feeding mode The stream feeding mode allo ws easy operation of continuous cop ying from the SPF . If the stream f eeding mode has been enabled using user program No .4, the SPF ( ) indicator will blink f or approximately 5 seconds after the last original has been f ed by the SPF .
16 2 Making copies REDUCTION/ENLARGEMENT/ZOOM Three preset reduction ratios and two enlargement ratios can be selected. The zoom function enables cop y ratio selection from 50% to 200% in 1% increments. Set the original and check the cop y paper size.
17 2 Making copies BYP ASS FEED (including special paper) The bypass tr ay automatically f eeds up to 50 sheets of standard copy paper and also f eeds special papers such as transparency film and labels one sheet at a time. Cop y paper measuring from 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" to 8-1/2" x 14" and in the weight range of 14 to 34.
18 2 Making copies BYP ASS FEED Print face Press the tra y select ( ) key to select the b ypass tra y . Set the number of copies if using standard cop y paper . Press the pr int ( ) ke y . TW O-SIDED COPYING T wo-sided cop ying can be made on this copier using the bypass tra y .
19 2 Making copies TWO-SIDED COPYING F or tablet binding, tur n the first cop y over left to right as shown belo w . For booklet binding, turn the first copy ov er top to bottom (not shown). Feed the first cop y into the b ypass tra y . Press the tra y select ( ) ke y to select the b ypass tra y and press the pr int ( ) ke y .
20 3 Special functions SPECIAL FUNCTIONS This chapter describes the special functions of this copier . Use these functions as needed. DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL FUNCTIONS T oner save mode (page 20) Reduces toner consumption by appro ximately 10%.
21 3 Special functions T ONER SA VE MODE Press and hold down the e xposure mode selector ke y for appro ximately 5 seconds. The manual ( ) indicator will go out and the photo ( ) indicator will begin to b link. The exposure indicator mark ed “ 5 ” will light up , indicating the standard toner mode is active .
22 3 Special functions USER PROGRAMS Press the print ( ) ke y . The entered program number will be steadily lit and the currently selected parameter number f or the program will blink on the right side of the displa y . Select the desired parameter using the right cop y quantity ( ) ke y .
23 4 Supplies and user maintenance SUPPLIES AND USER MAINTENANCE This chapter describes how to replace the toner car tridge. Be sure to use only genuine SHARP par ts and supplies. T ONER CAR TRIDGE REPLA CEMENT When the toner car tridge replacement required ( ) indicator lights up , replacement of the toner car tridge will be needed soon.

Hold the car tr idge on both sides and shak e it horizontally f our or five times. 4 or 5 times Gently inser t the toner car tr idge along the guides until it loc ks in place while pushing the lock release le v er .

Clean the charger using the f ollowing procedure. T ur n the power s witch off. Ensure that the b ypass tray is open and then open the side co v er while pressing the side cov er open button.
27 5 Copier trouble? COPIER TR OUBLE? This chapter describes misfeed remo val and troub leshooting. MISFEED REMO V AL When the misfeed ( ) indicator b links or blinks in the displa y , the copier will stop because of a misf eed. If a misf eed occurs when using the SPF , a number ma y appear in the display after a min us sign.
28 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL A Misfeed in the paper feed area Gently remov e the misfed paper from the paper f eed area as shown in the illustration. When b links in the displa y and the misf ed paper is not seen from the paper feed area, pull out the paper tra y and remove the misf ed paper .
29 5 Copier trouble? MISFEED REMO V AL ● Do not touch the photoconductiv e dr um (green portion) when removing the misf ed paper . Doing so may damage the drum and cause smudges on copies . ● Do not remov e the misfed paper from abo ve the fusing unit.
30 5 Copier trouble? Rotate the f eeding roller in the direction of the arrow and gently remov e the misf ed paper from the e xit area. F eeding roller Raise the fusing unit release lev er , close the front cov er and then close the side cover b y pressing the round projections near the side cov er open button.

MISFEED REMO V AL E Misfeed in the SPF An original misfeed ma y occur at one of three locations: if the misfed original is seen from the document f eeder tr a y , (A) in the document f eeder tra y; if the misfed original is not seen from the document feeder tr ay , (B) in the exit area or (C) under the f eeding roller .
