1 1 The flow chart shown belo w provides printing ov er view . Reference: F o r more inf or mation on printing, see "Basic Printing" (p.2 ). Caution ● When the paper source is the pape r tray or multi-bypass tray, verify that the paper has been loaded before starting printing.
2 1 This is a printing example using WordP ad to print a document onto A4 size paper . 1 Start W ordP ad, make a new file, and enter the text you intend to print. 2 Select "Print" from the application's "File" menu. 3 Make sure that "SHARP AR-xxxx" is s elected as the current printer .
3 1 Y ou can open the printer driver and cha nge the printer driv er settings from the Windo ws "star t" button. Settin gs adjusted in this wa y will be the initial settings when you print from an a pplication.
4 1 T o view Help for a setting, clic k the ( ) button in the uppe r right-hand corner of the windo w and then click the setting. Ta b Inde x which allows you to s witch between the various setup screens. ( ) button Click this b utton and then click a setting to view Help f or the setting.
5 1 T o pr int a watermark, for e xample "CONFIDENTIAL", on your do cument, ref er to the f ollowing steps. Ope n the printer driver and click the "W atermar ks" tab . Reference: See "Basic Printing" (p .2) f or details on how to open the printer driver .
6 1 This printer dr iv er can adjust the zoom r atio f or printing according to the paper loa ded in the unit. F ollow the steps sh own belo w to use this function . The instruct ion below assume s that you in tend to print an A4 or Letter size document onto a B5 or In voice size pap er .
7 1 This f eature allows y ou to pr int two or f our document pages onto a single page. T o use this function, open the printer dr iv er setup screen, select "2-Up" or "4-Up" fo r "N-Up Printing" on the "Main" tab.
8 1 When printing begins, the Print Status Wi ndow activ ates and appears on the screen. The Print Status Window is a progr am designed to show t he current printer status incl uding the document name being printed and error messages. Status window Provides details on the current status of the print job.
9 2 The machine can be used as a share d printer in a Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista netw or k environme nt. Note that the Windo ws network en vi ronment must already be estab lished.
10 2 On the computer to which the mac hine is directly connected F ollow the steps below to use the com puter directly connected to the machine as a pr int ser v er .
11 2 F ollow the procedure below to instal l the pr inter driver in the cl ient. 1 Click the "start" button, and c lick "Contr o l Pan e l " . 2 Click "Printers and Other Har dware", and click "Printers and Fax es".
12 2 5 Select "A network printer , or a printer attached to another computer ", and c lic k the "Next" b utton. 6 Select "Br owse f or a printer", and c lick the "Next" button. 7 Select the printer to be sh ared in the network, and clic k the "Next" button.

By installing a TWAIN driver o nto your computer, you can scan and work with images using a va riety of TWAIN-compliant applications.
14 3 The SHARP scanner driver co nf orms to TWAIN, the indus tr y standard, making it compatib le with a variety of TW AIN- compliant applications. 1 Place the original (s) you wish to scan on the document glass/SPF .
15 3 4 Open the scanner driver setup screen. Reference: "Scanner Driv er Settings" (p .16) 5 In the "Scanning Source" menu, select the position in which y ou placed the orig inal in Step 1 ("Platen" (document glass) or "SPF").
16 3 Scanner Driver Setting s The scanner driver se tup screen consists of the "Set-up screen", which lets you select scan settings, and the "Pre view screen", which sho ws the scanned image . For details on the sc an settings, clic k the "Help" button to displa y Help.
17 3 Previe w screen Previe w window Click the "Pre view" button in the Set-up screen to display the scanned image . Y ou can specify the scanning area by dragging the mouse inside the window . "A uto Scan Area Judgement" button Click when the pre view screen is display ed to automatically set the scanning area.
18 3 If you are using Windo ws XP/Vist a, y ou can use the WIA driver to scan from P aint and other WIA-compliant applications . The procedure f or scanning using P aint is explained in the f ollowing. 1 Place the original y ou wish to scan on the document glass/SPF .
19 3 3 Select the paper source an d picture type , and clic k the "Previe w" button. The previe w image will appear . If you placed the original on the document glass, select "Flatbed" for the "P aper source".
20 3 The procedure f or scanning with the "S canner and Camer a Wizard" in Windows XP is e xplained here. The "Scanner and Camera Wizard" lets you s can an image withou t using a WIA-co mpliant application. 1 Place the original y ou wish to scan on the document glass/SPF .
21 3 5 Select the "Picture type" and "Paper sour ce", and clic k the "Next" b utton. If you placed the original on the document glass, select "Flatbed" for the "P aper source".
22 3 7 When scanning ends, the following screen will appear . Select the next task you wish to perform, and then clic k the "Next" b utton. If you are ready to end the session, click "Nothing. I'm finished working with these pictures".
23 3 Button Manager is a utility softw are to link scanning functions to the SCAN k ey on the unit. This software enab les you to set scanning functions to six diff erent scan menus, wh ich will be link ed to the SCAN key on the unit.
24 3 After being installed, Button Manager normally keeps activ e under the Windows operating sy stem. Fo llow the steps sho wn below to set scan options as y ou lik e. F or details on the settings in the setting screen of Button Manager , see Button Manager Help.
25 4 When any troub le has occurred in the unit, first, verify whethe r you can mak e a cop y or not with the unit. Chec k the items shown belo w when the unit does not work properly b ut it can make a cop y . Reference: If any copier trouble occu rs, ref er to "TROUBLESHOO TING" in the Operation Man ual.
26 4 CHECK1 Is the interface cab l e compatib le with the unit and computer? Interface cab le com patible with this unit is USB cable . USB cable Use a shielded cable. CHECK2 Is the interface cab le connected securel y? Check if the interf ace cable is securely plugged into the connectors of the un it and computer .
27 4 Reference: "Plug and Pla y Screen does not Appear" (p .28) CHECK1 Is there enough computer memory or hard disk space? T o use this unit, y ou must hav e an adequate amount of hard disk space. If ther e is insufficient hard disk space, delete unnecessar y files to increase the free space of the hard disk.
28 4 If the Plug and Pla y screen does not a ppear after y ou connect the unit to your c omputer with a USB cable and turn on the power of both de vices, f ollow the steps belo w to v erify that the USB por t is av ailable .
29 4 If the driver cannot be installed under Win dows 2000/XP , chec k your computer's settings according to the f ollowing procedure . 1 Click the "start" button, and then c lick "Contr ol Pa n e l" .
30 4 If print output is faint, une ven or smeared, f ollow the steps listed belo w . CHECK1 Has the printer driver been specified to suit both paper and the print job? Y ou can select "Draft", "Nor mal" or "Photo" for the print quality in th e "Adv anced" tab of the p rinter driver setup screen.
31 4 If a document is printed ske wed or par tl y off the paper , follo w the steps listed below . CHECK1 Is the paper size loaded in the tray the same as that specified in th e printer driver? Check if the "P a per Size" options suit the siz e of the paper loaded in the tra y .
32 4 If nothing prints e ven when the unit is turned on, please wait a f ew moments . The unit needs a longer time to proces s intricate data. If the unit still does not print, refer to the chec k list below .
33 4 If you get poor quality as a res ult of scanning a job , and you c annot improv e the quality b y changing pref erences, ref er to the chec k list shown be low . CHECK1 Is the original c lean? Check y our or iginal bef ore scanning. If any dust sticks to the original, you cannot obtain a clean result.
34 4 If the scanned image is incorrectly position ed, ref er to the check list sho wn below . CHECK1 Have y ou placed the original straight? Place the orig inal straight on the do cument glass. Reference: Refer to "ORIGINAL PLA CEMENT" in the Operation Man ual f or the detail on how to set the original.
35 4 If you c annot scan the image , turn off your computer . Press the power s witch on the unit to turn it off, unplug the unit from t he pow er source, and then plug it bac k in. Restar t your computer . T r y scanning again. If scanning is still not possib le, ref er to the chec k list below .
