8 A Look at the Operation P anel Displa y This displays messages and prompts to help y ou operate the machine. ZOOM key Press this ke y to select an enlargement or reduction setting when ma king a cop y (page 56).

REDIAL key Press this ke y f ollowed by the Start ke y to automatically redial th e last number dialled (page 71). Stop key Press this ke y to cancel an operation before it is completed.

11 1. Installation 1. Installation Unpac king Chec klist Bef ore setting up , make sure you ha v e all of the follo wing items. If any are missing, contact your dealer or retailer . Note: The shape of the line cord plug varies by country . An adapter (not shown) is pro vided in some countr ies.
Installation 12 Installation Attaching the tra ys Attach the document f eeder tray . Slide the output tray into the machine a s shown. When it stops, lift the end slightly and push in so that the tra y locks in place. Impor tant: The output tra y must be attached co rrectly or the machine will not operate.
Installation 13 1. Installation Releasing the scanner Bef ore plugging in the power cord, pull the scanner release towa rd you to release the scanner lock. ♦ Caution: Plugging in the power cord without releasing the scanner lock ma y damage the machine.

Installation 15 1. Installation Connecting the telephone line cord Inser t one end of the line cord into th e sock et on the back of the machine marked TEL. LINE . Inser t the other end into a wall telephone sock et. Note: The shape of the line cord plug varies by country .
Installation 16 Setting the dial mode (Russ ia and Poland only): If you are on a tone dial line, the dial mode must be set to T ONE. If you are on a pulse dial l ine, the dial mode must be set to PULSE. ♦ In Russia the dial mode is initially set to PULSE.

Loading Printi ng Paper 23 1. Installation Loading Printing P aper Y ou can load up to 250 sheets of A4 paper (max. 80 g/m 2 ) in th e paper tra y . Caution! Do not use the blank side of paper that has already been printed on. 1 Remove the output tra y .

Installing the Software 26 ♦ T o scan the maximum document lengt h (356 mm) using the auto docum ent feeder at 1200 dpi in full colour , at least 1 GB of memor y is required . In addition, at least 600 MB or more of free hard disk space is required on the drive where y our operating system is installed.

Up to four timer f ax jobs can be stored at once, and the time of each can be specified up to a week in adv ance.
