INTRODUCTION This manual describes only the printer and scanner features of the AL-841. T o get full use of all printer and scanner features, f amiliarize y ourself with this man ual.
3 1 Getting Star ted INTRODUCTION Making floppy disks fr om CD-ROM The driver data in the CD-R OM can be copied to flopp y disks. Windows 95/Windows 98/Windo ws NT 4.0: 1 Inser t the installation CD-ROM into the CD-R OM drive. 2 Double-clic k My Computer , Al_841 (CD-R OM), and Makedisk .
4 1 Getting Star ted CONNECTING THE INTERF A CE CABLE T o use the AL-841 as a laser printer or scanner , connect it to your computer using a parallel interface cab le. Use the parallel interf ace cab le included with the AL-841. F or specifications of the parallel interf ace , see page 26.

16 2 Printing PRINTING FROM AN MS-DOS APPLICA TION Y ou can e xecute printing from an MS-DOS application which has been e x ecuted from the MS- DOS prompt in Windows . This machine can only print from applications r un from the MS-DOS prompt in Windows .
17 2 Printing PRINTING FROM AN MS-DOS APPLICA TION Settings on the fr ont panel P aper size, tra y selection, and other options are set from the front panel. Use the follo wing procedure to star t the front panel. Windows 95/Windows 98/Windo ws NT 4.0: 1 Click Start , Program , SHARP AL-841 , and DOS Emulation Setup .
18 3 Scanning 3 SCANNING SCANNING AN IMA GE Before y ou can scan images using the AL-841 from a TW AIN-compatible application, y ou must install the supplied SHARP TW AIN interf ace software . This softw are is automatically installed at the same time you install the SHARP printer driver provided on CD-R OM.
19 3 Scanning Scanning from a TW AIN-compatible application Menu names and their options are diff erent f or each application. 1 When multiple sources are a vailable , choose a command to select a scanning device from the application’ s men u and select SHARP AL841 TW AIN_xx .
