Getting Started 1-1 GETTING ST AR TED The Monarc h® Sierra Sport4™ 9493 ™ printer is a portab le thermal direct and therma l transfer printer that prints on t ags, labels , or receip t paper. Before using the printe r, review the safety informat ion in the Regulato ry Compliance document provided with y our printer.

2-2 Operator’s Handbook Opening & Closi ng the Printer Before loading ri bbon or supplies, you must open the printer . Close the prin ter before print ing. To open the printe r: 1. Insert you r fingers into the in dent benea th the supply door latch a nd lift.

T ip the ribbon casse tte back, if necessa ry, and pull it towards yo u until it slides out of th e printer .
2-4 Operator’s Handbook 6. Remo ve the clear wrap from a new rib bon and tear it at the perforat ion. 7. Ma ke sure the preprinte d side of the ribbon fac es out. Slide the ribbon reel onto the long spool wi th the foa m washer and the t ake-up reel o nto the s hort spool.
Loading Ribbon & Supplies 2-5 8. Ca refully re place the other half o f the rib bon casset te so the y fit toget her compl etely. Do not wrinkle or crush th e ribbon! 9. Ro tate the la tches until t hey snap in to the locke d ( ) position. They may hav e moved during ribbon loading.

F eed the fan-fol d supply in to the suppl y slot unde r the supply door and bet ween the supp ly guides on t he core so that a few inches exten d past th e front of th e printer.

Care & Maintenance 3-1 CARE & MAINTENANCE This chapte r explains how to ♦ clear label jams. ♦ clean the p rinthead, p laten roller, and supply sensors. Caution: Do not use sharp objects to clean the print head or touch the prin thead with your fingers.
