4 Intended use of the headset Intended use includes: y having read these instructions, especially the chapter “Important safety in structions ” on page 2, y using the headset withi n the operating c onditions and limitations desc ribed in this instructi on manual.
5 The HMEC 250 headset The HMEC 250 headset with NoiseGa rd 2.0 active noise compensation features closed , dynamic, circumaural stereo headphones. The HMEC 250 is a headset for general aviation use.
6 Ta l k T h r o u g h f u n c t i o n The TalkThrough fun ction allows you t o communicate w ith the people around you while wearing the headset. The NoiseGard 2.0 active noise comp ensation and the peak level protect ion remai n unaffe cted by t he TalkT hrough fu nction and help to protect your hearing.

9 Preparing the headset for use Inserting the batte ries Insert the batteries into the battery compartments on the left and right earcu ps as follows: 왘 Open the battery compartment by pushing the catch and open the cover. 왘 Insert the AAA size battery a s shown in the diagram on the left.
10 Connecting a mobile telephone The 2.5 mm jack socket allows you to connect a mobile telephone. For this purpose, the microphone plug must be connected to the aircraft radio/intercom. A suitable adapter for your mobile telephone with 2.5 mm ja ck socket is available from your Sennheiser agent.
11 Connecting an additiona l audio player The 3.5 mm jack socket allows you to connect and listen to an additional audio pl ayer (e.g. MP3 player) through the headset. 왘 Connect the audio cable to the 3.5 mm jack socket on the operating control and to the corresponding jack socket on your audio player.
12 Adjusting the mi crop hone sensitivity The microphone sensitivity has been factory pre-set to 40 mV/Pa as per RTCA DO-214. T o chang e the input sens itivity of the m icrophone: 왘 Use a suitable s lotted screwdriver. 왘 T urn the microphone sensitivity con trol as shown.
13 Using the headset Attaching the cable clip The cable clip allows you to attach the headphone cable to your clothing so that the cable doesn’t hin der or distract you. 왘 Guide the headphone cable through the cable clip . 왘 Attach the cable clip t o your clothin g.
14 왘 Bend the microphone boom s o t ha t t he mi cr op ho n e is placed at the corn er of the mouth. Maint ain a distance of approx. 2 cm between micr ophone and mouth. Adjusting the volume You can adjust the volume dire ctly on the intercom or via the operatin g control inte grated into the cable.
15 Switching the T alkThrough fu nction on/off The HMEC 250 provides excellent attenuation of ambient noise. In order to allow yo u to communicate undistur bed with your surroundings while weari ng the headset, the HMEC 250 features a TalkThrough function.
16 Switching No iseGard on/off T o switch the NoiseGard™ 2.0 active noise compensation on or off: 왘 Press the ON/OFF button for approx. one second. When NoiseGard 2.0 is switched on: –t h e L E D lights up red and – you can listen to music and make telephone calls at the same time .
17 Replacing the batteries When the batteries are almost flat, the LED flashes. When the batteries are co mpletely discharged, the NoiseGard 2.0 active noise compensation auto matically switches off (fail safe operation). Replace th e battery as follows: Note: Always replace the two batteries at the same time.
18 Folding up the headset For space-s aving transportation, the headset can be folded up in different ways: T o fold up the headphones as flat as possible: 왘 Rotate the earcups by 90° and turn the micr ophone boom flat as shown. T o fold up the headphones as compact as possible: 왘 T uck the earcups between the headband as shown.
19 Care and maintenance 왘 Use a sof t, slightly damp cloth to clean the headset from time to time. Replacing the earpads You can replace the earpads. Spare earpads are avai lable as accessories (see “Accessories and spare parts” on page 20). 왘 Grasp the edge of t he earpad behind the earcup and peel it up and away from the earcup.
20 Replacing the wind shield You can replace the wind shield. The HMEC 250 is sup plied with a spare wind shield. 왘 Carefully pull the wind shield from the microphone. 왘 Slide-on the new wind shield and ensur e that it fit s securely over the microphone.
