Y ou will find important information, tips and notes on passive s afety in your new LEON in this ch apter . W e have detailed ever ything you need to know about, for example, seat belts, Air Bags, child se ats, saf ety for chi ldren and head restraints.

The speed of the vehicle is, however , the more important fact or. If , for examp le, the speed increase s from 25 km/h to 50 km/h, the kinetic energy increa ses fourfold! As the vehicle oc cupants in our example are wearing no seat belts, their entire kinetic energy can only be dis persed through the crash into the wal l, should a crash occur .
In ca se of a frontal collis ion accident, the occup ants who are not belted up are thrown forwards and c ollide with parts of the vehicle interior , e.g. the steering wheel, instrument panel or windscreen. V ehicle occupants who are not belted in may even be thrown out of the vehicle.
P P r r o o t t e e c c t t i i n n g g s s e e a a t t b b e e l l t t s s Seat belts which are w orn pr operly con- tribute to the correct seating position of the vehicle’s occupants. The seat belts help reduce kinetic energy considerab ly . They also prevent uncontroll able move- ments which c an also be the cause of severe injuries.
