English 14 INST ALLING THE BA TTERIES AND CARD Y our camera has an internal memory , which means that you ca n take phot os ev en when no card is installed. By using a card, howe v er , yo u will be able to take man y more photos . The card can be used after it ha s been f or matted with the camera (page 95).
15 English INST ALLING THE BA TTERIES AND CARD 3 Insert the card. h Firmly inser t the card until it clicks into pl ace. 4 Close the battery/card cove r. When removing the card... h T o remove the car d, press it down, and then rel ease. The card will protrude slightly , and you can then pull it out .
English 16 CA UTION Be careful when remo ving the car d. i Do not attempt t o f orcibly re mov e the card. i Nev er remove the card when th e camera is connect ed to a computer or printer , or when the self-timer indicat or is flashing quick ly . In doing so , you risk losing the data stored in the card.
17 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AND OFF T urning on the camera In the shooting mode 1 Press the ON/OFF button. h The camera turns on. h The camera turns on in the shooting mode that w as activ e bef ore it was last turned off. In the pl a yback mode 1 Press the playback button [ = ] for at least one second.

English 20 4 Set the date and time. 1 Press the [ m ] b utton to select the year i ndication. 2 Press the [ n ] or [ o ] bu tton to change the ye ar indication. h Repeat thes e steps to select the month indication and da y indication, and set the date to December 24, 2006.

HINT i Under normal conditions, while the batt eries are being replaced, an internal battery will maintain the date and time settings.
English 22 BASIC OPERA TION BEFORE T AKING PICTURES How to hold the camera Hold the camera secu rely , keeping your elbo ws close to your body and making sure the camera is stabl e. Make sure tha t the lens and flash are not b lock ed by your finge rs or the handstrap .
23 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES About the touch sensor (touch f ocus) With the touch sensor , the image is fo cuse d simply by a light finger -touch on the shutter button (f ocus loc k). With t he subject in f ocus, just gently press the shutter butt on to take the pictu re for a perf ectly focused image.
English 24 Using the autof ocus The autof ocus will wo rk in almost all situations; ho we ver , there are certain conditions that ma y cause the autof ocus function to not work properly . If the autof ocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to ca pture images (page 52).

27 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES How to s witch the shooting mode Y our camera can capt ure single still photos (single sh ot shooting mode), record video clips (video clip recording mode), an d also capture a series of still photos (se quential shots sh ooting mode).
English 28 Switching the displa y mode In the shooting mode , you ca n select the either the “sett ings displa y mode” which allows y ou to confi rm the shooting settings on the monitor while you shoot, or the “normal display mode” in which the setting indicati ons are turned off, providing a full vie w of the subject.
29 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Adjust the monitor brightness The brightness of the monitor is adjustab le. Adjust the brightness t o the optimum readabilit y in the ambient light. 1 Press the ON/OFF button to turn the camera on. 2 Press the MENU button for at least 1 second.

31 English CAPTURING AND PLA YING B A CK STILL IMA GES There are two modes f or capturing still image s. In th e normal still image mode, one image is capture d each time the shutter b utton is pressed. In the sequential shots mode , when y ou press the shutter button, se veral successive images are captured.
English 32 3 Ge ntly press the shutter button. h Press the shutter bu tton gently , taking care not to mov e the camer a. h The image that was captur ed appears on the monitor as long as the shutter b utton is kept pressed (post view). 4 Releas e your finger from the shutter button.
33 English CAPTURING A ND PLA YING B A CK STILL IM A GES Viewing still images The steps fo r viewing both single shots and sequenti al shots are the same. 5 Press the play back button [ = ]. h If the pla yback b utton [ = ] was pressed to turn the camera on, ho we v er , press the pla yback b utton [ = ] f or at least 1 second.

35 English CAPTURING A ND PLA YING B A CK STILL IM A GES Magnifying ( zooming in) the image 1 Display the image that you want to magni fy. 2 Press [T] ([ ] ]) on the zoom switch. h Magnification is enabled. h The image is magnified, and the central portion of image is display ed.
English 36 Zoom jump pla ybac k Y ou can magnify a portion of a still image to check the accuracy of the f ocus. 1 Di splay a still image to view using zoom jump playback. 2 Pres s the SET button. h The image is magnified. h If the magnified view appears to be in f ocus, then the ov erall image will be in f ocus.
37 English CAPTURING A ND PLA YING B A CK STILL IM A GES Erasing files Y ou can erase files that are stored on the card if y ou no longer need them. Y ou can erase the files one at a time , or all at once. 1 To erase data from the card, perform the delete procedure with the card installed in the camera.
English 38 <T o delet e one fil e> 1 Use the [ l ] and [ m ] buttons to display the file you wish to de lete. 2 Press the [ n ] or [ o ] button to select DELETE SINGLE. 3 Press the SET bu tton. h The currently disp la yed fil e is delete d. h T o delete other file s, repea t steps 1 to 3 .

43 English VIDEO CLIP RECORDING AND PLA YB A CK CA UTION The data for a video clip is very large. i Theref ore, be a ware tha t if the video clip is uploaded to a computer to be pla yed bac k, the computer ma y not be able to play back the video f ast enough, making it appear jerky .
English 44 USING THE SCENE FUNCTION Y ou can select from a v ariety of preset settings (aperture, shutter speed , etc.) fo r specific shooting conditions. 1 Se t the camera to the shooting mode (page 26), and press the SCENE button. h The screen to sele ct the settings suitable f or the scene (shooting conditions) appears .

English 46 Capture a still image with a v oice memo With the still-image-plus-audio a scene fu nction, you can add an audio trac k (about 10 seconds maximu m) to a captured stil l image. This audio trac k is called a “voice memo”. 1 On t he screen to select the sc ene function settings (page 44), select a , and press the SET button.
47 English USING THE ZOOM Y our camera has t wo zo om functions: opt ical zoom and digital z oom. 1 Set the camera to the shooting mode (page 26), and point the camera lens at the subject. 2 Press the zoom switch to compose the desired image. [T]: Zoom in on the sub ject.
English 48 FLASH SETTING The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlight conditions. Y our camer a’ s flash has f our modes of operation (au tom atic flash mode , for ced flash mode, flash off mode and red-e ye red uction mode).

51 English SELF-TIMER HINT T o pause or cancel the self-timer function... i If the shutter b utton is presse d again bef ore the shutter is released, the self-timer countdow n temporarily stops. Press the shutter button one more time to restar t the self-timer.

English 62 ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial se ttings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Howe ver , the ISO sensi tivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Di splay the Recording Menu ( page 54). 2 Se lect “ISO” and press the SET button.
63 English WHITE B ALANCE This camera automaticall y adjusts the white balance und er most lighting conditions. Ho we v er , if y ou want to specify the lighting conditions or ch ange the ov erall tone of the image, the whit e balance can be manuall y set.

71 English CHANGING IMA GE SIZE (RESIZE) The size of a still image that has already been capt ured at a resolution of t or more can be cha nged to 1,6 00 × 1,200 pix els or 640 × 48 0 pix els. The resized image is sa ved as a se parate image . 1 Display the sti ll image whose size you want to change, and display the Playback Menu (page 66).
English 72 COPY D A T A Images recorded in the ca mera’ s inter nal memory can be copied to the card, and like wise from the ca rd to the internal memory . 1 I nsert the card in the camera (page 14). 2 Di splay the Playback Menu (page 66). 3 Se lect “FILE COPY” and press the SET button.
73 English COPY D A T A 5 Press the SET button. h The screen to select the type of copy appears. h The copy sour ce is shown in the backg round on the screen. COPY SINGLE: Copy the data f or one image. COPY ALL: Copy all the data from the copy source to the cop y destination.

75 English PRINT SETTINGS HINT About the DPOF format i DPOF (Digital Print Order Fo rmat) is a print order f ormat. Y ou can connect your camer a to a DPOF-compati ble printer to produce y our prints. Y ou can also set t he print settings (page 108) for the de sired images , and then ha v e the reserved images printed automatically .
English 76 Specifying date imprin ting and number of prints Y ou can specify print settings f or each individual imag e (EA CH IMA GE), or apply the print se ttings to al l the images on t he card (ALL IMA GES). 1 Di splay the scre en to set the pr int settings (page 74).
