8 English INTRODUCTION 1 BEFORE USE Notes on handling removable HDDs This unit uses remo vable hard disk drives (HDD). Be sure to observe the following poi nts carefully when operating, setting-up and servicing the unit. Do not subject the unit to shocks or vibration.
BEFORE USE 1 English 9 Hard disk protection The hard disk is checked automa tically at power ON. If a hard disk problem is found, the CHANGE DISK indicator flashes. To initialize the disk or save images stored on the disk, contact a Sanyo service centre.
10 English INTRODUCTIO N 2 REPLACING A REMOVABLE HDD A separately-sold hard disk tray (VA-DT300) can be installed to facilitate e asier storage and replacement. z When replacing with a HDD used in a DSR-300; Of the menu setti ngs, only the rec ording area setti ngs and the overwrite o n/off se tting are used for the HDD.

Pulling the handle causes the HDD tray lock to be released. 4 Pull the clasp, release the lock, and remove the cover. 5 Remove the 4 screws, take the removable HDD out of the tray, and release the connector.

INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS 4 18 English INTRODUCTION 1 When you have finished making a ll the other connections, insert the power plug into the wall outlet. There is no power switch. The displ ay indicators flash, and after a few moments, the monitor screen displays the camera image.
English 19 1 PREPARING FOR USE Whenever the power i s turned ON, the operation display area will be displayed at the top left of the monitor screen. This area indicates the date and time, the imag e quality, the recording rate , and other information needed for operation.
PREPARING FOR USE 1 20 English OPERATION 1 Press the [EXIT/OSD] button repeatedly. Pressing the [EXIT/OSD] button repeatedly lets you move or erase the operation display area.

40 English OPERATION 8 SAVING MENU SETTINGS Use the following procedure to save menu settin gs on a CompactFlash card or to load settings from a CompactFlash card back into the unit. These functions make it easy to use the same settin gs on a number of different digital video recorders.

RECORDING AREA SET 3 54 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 1> Recording area al locations The highest possible allo cation for the normal recording area and the alarm recording area is 99%. The allocation for the archive area cann ot be set manually.
RECORDING AREA SET 3 English 55 By default, when all of the space in the ha rd disk’s normal recording area and alarm recording area has been used up, repetitive overwriting is automaticall y started (resulting in the o lder data being r eplaced).
56 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 1> 4 RECORDING CONDITIONS SET This section describes how to perform series recording when a number of u nits have been connected together. When series recording is being ca rried out, the overwrite setting for the normal reco rding area and alarm recording area must be set to “OFF” as described on P.
RECORDING CONDITIONS SET 4 English 57 Settings can be made to indicate whether ove rwriting is to be performed (deleting old images) recording is to be stopped when any of the hard disk’s recording area s become full. In the latter case, the remaining capacity is shown as a percentage on t he operation displa y area.
RECORDING CONDITIONS SET 4 58 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 1> Set the “NORMAL RECORDING AREA” and/o r the “ALARM RECORDING AREA” on the <RECORDING AREA SET> screen again. ( J P. 55) You can set a storage period for recorded data as described below.
English 59 5 NORMAL REC MODE SET Follow the procedures below to select the recording picture quality, recording method (i.e ., frame or field), audio recording, and recording rate for the normal recording area. 1 Press the [MENU] button. The <MAIN MENU 1> screen appears.
60 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 1> 6 TIMER SET You can set recording start/stop times using the timer function. You can set times at which to start and stop recording on each specified day of the week in addition to the corresponding re cording rate.
TIMER SET 6 English 61 4 Press the [ ] or [ ] button to change “SUN” to “DLY”. z If “DLY” is set f or any row, timer recording on Sundays will also be carried out in accordance with that row’s settings. In other words, “D L Y” includes Sundays and is given prio rity over other set tings.
TIMER SET 6 62 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 1> Follow the procedures below to set ti mer recordings spanning more than 2 4 hours. These settings are made using lines 7 (default: “SAT”) and 8 (default: “DLY”) of the <TIMER SET> screen.
English 63 7 HOLIDAY SET You can set specific dates a s holidays to have the operation for Sunday used on those days also. Dates such as national holidays and company off days should be set as holidays when you want those dates to have the same security as Sundays.

68 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 2> 1 DISPLAY/VIDEO LOSS SET The <DISPLAY SET> screen lets you turn off the display of the date, time, or other information in the operation display area on the screen. Use this screen to make settings as needed.

English 71 3 BUZZER SET The <BUZZER SET> screen lets you set a warning buzzer to sound when events occu r such as alarms being generated or the remaining hard disk space reaching zero . Use this screen to make settings as needed. [Settings] ( indicates default setting.
72 English SETTINGS <MAIN MENU 2> 4 SECURITY LOCK SET You can set passwords that rest rict use of the digital video recorder to administrators and designated users, thus preventing unauthorized ope ra tion. When the security lock is set, a buzzer sounds when an unauthorized user presses any of the digital video recorder’s operation buttons.
SECURITY LOCK SET 4 English 73 Passwords can be between 4 and 8 alphanumeri c characters. Characters that can be entered in passwords: 0 to 9, A to Z Example: Setting “123456AB” as a p assword 1 Press the [MENU] button twice. The <MAIN MENU 2> screen appears.
