If there is any resistance and the paper does not move when you pull or if y ou cannot see the pape r in the jam cover , continue to step 6.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.5 8 In the Fu ser Area or Around the T oner Cartridge N OTE : The fuser area is h ot. T ake care when removing paper from the machine. 1 Open the front cover and pull the toner cartridg e out, lightly pushing it down. 2 R emov e the jamm ed pa per b y ge ntl y pulli ng it stra ig ht ou t.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.6 In the Manu al Feeder “ Paper Jam 1 Ope n/Close Doo r ” appears on the display wh en you try to print using the manual feeder and the machine does not detect paper , due to no paper or improper pa per loading.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.7 8 • Ensure that the print side of print mater ials is facing down in the paper tray and facing up in the manual feeder . • If paper jams frequently occur when you print on the A5- sized paper: - Load the paper into the tray as shown below.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.8 Clearing LCD Error Messages Messages a ppears on the d isplay to indicate the control pa nel to indicate the machine’ s sta tus or errors. R efer to the following table to understa nd the messag e’ s meaning and cor rect the proble m, if ne cessa ry .

T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.13 8 Printing Qua lity Prob lems If the inside of the printer is dirty , or paper i s improperly load ed, print quality m aybe reduced. See the table below to clear the problem. Condition Su ggested solutions Light or f aded prin t If a verti cal white streak or f aded area app ears on the page : • The toner suppl y is low.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.14 Vertical lines If black vertical streaks appear on the page: • The dr um inside the toner car tridge has probabl y been scratched. R e move the toner cartridge and install a new one. See “Replacing the T oner Ca rtridge” on page 7.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.15 8 Backgrou nd scatter Background scatter results from bits of ton er distributed on the pr int ed pag e. • The pape r may be too damp. T ry printing with a diffe rent batch of paper . Do not ope n packages o f paper until necessary so that the pa per does not a bsorb too much moisture.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.16 Wrinkles or creases • Ensu re that the pa per is loaded p roperly . • Chec k th e pape r type a nd qual ity . See “Pap er S peci ficatio ns” on page A.5. • T urn the stack of p aper over in the pape r tra y . Also try rotating the pape r 180° in the tray .
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.17 8 Character Voids Character v oids are white areas within the parts of characters that should be soli d black: • If you are using transparencies, try anothe r type of transparency . Due to the composition of the transpare ncy , some character voids are normal.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.18 Copyin g Problems Condition Sugg ested soluti ons Copi es are to o ligh t or too dark. Use t he "Darkn ess" f eature t o dark en or lighten t he back grou nd of th e copie s. Smears, lines, marks or spots appears on copies.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.19 8 Scanni ng Problem s Condition Sugge sted solutions The sc anner does not work. • Make sure tha t you place the document to be scanned face down on the document glass. • The re may not be enough available memo ry to hold the document you want to scan.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.20 Common Linux Problems Problem Possible Cause and Solution The machine doesn't print • Ch eck if the pr inter d river i s installed in your sy stem . Open MFP configurator and switch to the Printers tab i n Printers configurati on window to look at the list of ava ilable pr inters.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 8.21 8 The ma chin e does no t appear on the scanners list (continued) • Check if the MFP port is not busy . Since functional components o f MFP (printer and scanner) s hare the same I/O interface (MFP port), the situation of simultaneous access of different "consumer " application to the same MFP port is possible.
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 8.22 I can't print w hen I installed both Linux Print P ackage (LPP) and MFP driver on the same machine sim ult aneou sly . • Si nce both Lin ux Prin ter P ackage and MFP driv.

A.9 A Paper Storage Environment Paper stor a ge environment conditions directly affect the feed operation. Ideally , the machine and paper storage environment should be at or near room temperature, and not too dry or humi d. R emember that paper is hygroscopic; it absorbs and l oses moisture rapidly .
A.10 Envelopes Envelo pe construction is critical. Envelope fold lines can v a ry consid erably , not only betwe en manufacturers, but also within a box from the same m anufacturer . Successful printing on envelopes depends upon the quality of the envelopes.
A.11 A Envel opes wi th Adhe sive St rips or F laps Envelopes with a peel-off adhesive strip or with more than one flap that folds over to seal mu st use adhesives compat ible with the heat and p ressure in the machine. T he extra flaps and strips m ight cause wrinkl in g, creasing or even jams and may even damage the fuser .
A.12 Label s C AUTIONS : • T o avoid da magi ng th e mach ine, use on ly labe ls re com mende d for la ser pr int ers. • T o prevent serious jams, alw ays use the manual feeder to prin t labels and always use the rear output tr ay . • Never prin t on the same sh eet of la bel s more th an on ce and ne ver pr int on a parti al sheet of labels.
