Getting star ted 11 3 Place the SIM car d cov er on the G ear and press the c over t o close it. Ensure that the SIM car d cover is closed tightly t o preven t water and dust en tering the device . Open or loose the cov er may allow w ater and dust to ent er the device and cause damage.
Getting star ted 12 Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the Gear by c onnec ting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 13 2 Connect the Gear to the charging dock with the char ging terminals facing each other . 1 2 3 Plug the small end of the charger int o the multipur pose jack of the charg ing dock. 4 Plug the large end of the char ger into an electric socket.
Getting star ted 14 After fully charging , disconnect the G ear from the char ging dock . Then, disconnect the charging dock fr om the USB cable and unplug the USB power adapter fr om the electr ic socket. T o sav e energy , unplug the charger when not in use.
Getting star ted 15 About using batt er y • Battery operating time is affected by device usage patt er ns and the condition of the battery . • The battery is a consumable item. Battery life can be reduc ed when multiple apps or featur es are running simultaneously .
Getting star ted 16 • Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you r elease the clasp. • Do not bend the strap ex cessively . Doing so may damage the Gear . 2 Open the clasp and place the strap ar ound your wrist. F it the strap to your wrist, secur e it with the pin, and then press the buckle to close it.
Getting star ted 17 2 Inser t one end of the Gear into the mounting hole of a new strap . Then, inser t the other end of the Gear into the hole and pull the strap up at the same time . 1 2 3 Ensure that the Gear is sitting secur ely in the mounting hole and that it is properly aligned with the strap .
Getting star ted 18 T urning the Gear on and off When you turn on the Gear f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions. The instructions describe how to connect the Gear to a mobile device and to set up the Gear . Pr ess and hold the Home key for a few sec onds to turn on the Gear .

Getting star ted 22 T urning on or off the screen Pr essing the Home key on the Clock screen turns off the screen. Also , the screen turns off if the Gear is not used for a specified period. T o turn on the screen, pr ess the Home key . The Gear will display the Clock screen.
Getting star ted 23 A djusting the volume On the Clock screen, drag up wards from the bottom edge of the scr een, tap Settings → Sound → V olume . Then, select an item and adjust it and tap OK . Alternativ ely , open the Clock screen, drag do wnwards fr om the top of the screen, and dr ag the volume adjustment bar left or right.
24 Basics U sing the touchscr een • Do not allow the touchscr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touchscr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touchscreen, do not tap it with an ything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.

Basics 35 Blocking notifications Y ou can set the Gear not to r eceive cer tain notifications . On the All apps screen of the mobile devic e, tap Samsung Gear → Notifications → Manage notifications and deselect the item you do not want to r eceive notification fr om.

42 Net w ork & c ommunication Mobile data Connect the device to a mobile network to use the Internet or shar e media files with other devices. On the All apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Use mobile networks → Alwa ys on and tick Mobile data .
Network & communication 43 Remote c onnec tion Remotely connect the Gear to the mobile device when a Bluetooth connection between the devices is not av ailable. When this f eature is activated, y ou can receiv e notifications from the mobile device .
Network & communication 44 Mak ing calls Use one of the f ollowings methods: • On the All apps screen, tap Phone → , enter a number using the keypad , and then tap . Delete a preceding char acter . View call and message logs . Pr eview the phone number .
Network & communication 45 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If the voice contr ol feature is activated , say “ Answer ” to answer the call.
Network & communication 46 Rejec ting a call Reject an incoming call and send a rejection message to the caller . When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. T o send a message when rejecting an incoming call, select a message from the list of r ejec tion messages.

Network & communication 50 Sending messages If both devices have a SIM car d installed, you can use the Gear to send messages from either device ’ s phone number . By default, the Gear sends messages using the mobile device’ s SIM ca rd. Y ou ma y incur additional charges f or sending or receiving messages when y ou are roaming .

Reading emails On the All apps screen, tap Email and select an email to open the email screen. 90 Appendix T roubleshooting Befor e contacting a Samsung Ser vice Centre , please attempt the follo wing solutions. Some situations may not apply t o your Gear . Y our Gear does not turn on When the battery is completely discharged , your Gear will not turn on.
Appendix 91 Y our Gear freez es or has fatal err ors If your Gear freezes or hangs , you may need to close apps or turn off the Gear and turn it on again. If your Gear is froz en and unresponsiv e, pr ess and hold the Home key for mor e than 7 seconds to r eset.
Appendix 92 Calls ar e not connec ted • Ensure that y our G ear is connected to a mobile device . • Ensure that mobile devic e has accessed the right cellular netw ork . • Ensure that y ou have not set call barring for the phone number y ou are dialling on the mobile device .
