Getting star ted 12 Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . Only microSIM car ds work with the device . 1 Remove the back c over . Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you r emove the back cov er .
Getting star ted 13 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 14 4 Replace the back cov er . 2 Align Pr ess 1 • Ensure that the back c over is closed tigh tly . • Use only Samsung-appro ved back co vers and accessories with the device . Removing the SIM or USIM card and ba tter y 1 Remove the back c over .
Getting star ted 15 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out. Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the devic e by connecting them via the USB cable.
Getting star ted 16 1 Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor . 2 Open the multipurpose jack cov er . 3 When using a USB cable, plug the USB cable in to the right side of the multipurpose jack as shown in the image below . • Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device .
Getting star ted 17 5 After fully charging , disconnect the device from the charger . First unplug the char ger from the device , and then unplug it from the electr ic socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the charger . This may damage the device .
Getting star ted 18 Inser ting a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 128 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 19 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 20 T urning the devic e on and off When turning on the device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device . Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . T o turn off the device, pr ess and hold the Pow er button, and then tap P ower off .
Getting star ted 21 L ock ing and unlock ing the devic e Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and puts the device into lock mode . The device automatically gets locked if it is not used f or a specified period.
22 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 23 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item for mor e than 2 seconds to access av ailable options. Dragging T o move an ic on or thumbnail, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 24 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list, such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 25 Indicator ic ons The icons displa yed on the status bar pr ovide information about the status of the device . The icons listed in the table belo w are most common. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Basics 28 Using the quick setting panel A number of quick setting buttons are a vailable on the notifications panel. T o view or access more quick setting buttons , open the quick setting panel. When you open the quick setting panel, y ou can activate or deactivate various fea tures or configur e settings.

Basics 30 Home and Apps scr eens Home screen The Home screen is the starting point to access all of the devic e ’ s features . I t displays widgets , shor tcuts to apps , and more. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf ormation and conv enient access on y our Home screen.
Basics 31 Home screen options T ap and hold an empty area, or pinch your fingers together on the Home scr een to access the options available on the Home scr een.
Basics 32 Using My Magazine T ap or scroll right on the Home scr een to open My Magazine . My Magazine displays liv e social net work updates and new s that you are inter ested in. Acc ess additional options. T o select the content to be displa yed , tap → Settings , and then select the categories that inter est you.
Basics 33 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including any new apps installed. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.
Basics 34 Opening apps On the Home screen or the Apps scr een, selec t an app icon to open it. T o open the list of recen tly-used apps, tap and select an app icon to open. Closing an app T ap → , and then tap End next to an app to close it. T o close all running apps, tap End all .

42 P ersonalising S witching to easy mode Easy mode provides an easier user e xperience by using a simpler lay out and bigger icons on the Home screen. Y ou can access the most popular apps and frequently -used settings, and add shor tcuts to y our favourite contacts.
P ersonalising 43 Moving and remo ving an item T ap and hold an item on the Home screen, and then drag it t o a new location. T o move the it em to another panel, drag it to the side of the scr een. Y ou can also mov e frequently-used apps to the shortcuts area at the bottom of the Home screen.
P ersonalising 44 Managing the Apps scr een Changing view mode On the Apps screen, tap → V iew as and select a sor ting method. Hiding apps Hide apps that you do not want t o see on the Apps screen. On the Apps screen, tap → Hide apps , select apps, and then tap Done .
P ersonalising 45 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way tha t you lock the scr een to prev ent others accessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 46 P assword A passwor d consists of characters and numbers. En ter at least f our characters including numbers and symbols, and then ent er the passwor d again to verify it. Setting wallpaper Set an image or photo stored on the devic e as wallpaper for the Home screen or the locked screen.
P ersonalising 47 Setting up acc ounts A dding acc ounts Some apps used on your device r equire a r egister ed account . Creat e accounts t o hav e the best experience with your devic e. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Ac counts → Add ac count and select an account ser vice .
P ersonalising 48 1 On your device , tap Smar t Swit ch Mobile . 2 On your device , selec t an option depending on the previous device type and f ollow the on-screen instructions. If the previous device is an Andr oid device, ensur e that the Smar t Switch Mobile app is installed on the device .
49 Net w ork c onnec tivit y C onnec ting to a mobile network Connect the device to a mobile network to use the Internet when a W i-Fi network is not available . On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Data usage , and then tick Mobile data . Alternativ ely , open the quick setting panel and tap Mobile data to activate it.
Network connectivit y 50 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the networks list. Enter the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passwor d if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 51 U sing Smar t network swit ch Use this f eature t o maintain a stable network connection when you bro wse webpages , download cont ent, and more. Bef ore using this featur e, ensur e that the mobile data connection and Wi-F i featur es are activated .

Phone 69 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If a call notification pop -up window appears while y ou are using an app , tap Answ er in the pop-up window . If the call waiting ser vice is activated, another call can be made .

Messages & email 79 Managing messages While viewing the list of messages, tap and use the following options: • Selec t : Selec t messages to delete or t o identify them as spam. • Delete : Delete all or selected messages. • Draft messages : View messages sa ved f or later deliver y .
Messages & email 80 Sending scheduled messages While composing a message , tap → Schedule email . Tick Schedule email , set a time and date , and then tap Done . • If the device is turned off at the scheduled time, is not connected to the network, or the network is unstable, the message will not be sent.

Camera 85 U sing the HDR (R ich tone) eff ec t T ake photos with rich colours and repr oduce details even in bright and dark ar eas. On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → , and then take a photo . Without eff ec t With eff ec t U sing selec tive f ocus mode Use the out-of-focus eff ect to blur the background and make your subject stand out.
Camera 86 Befor e using this mode • It is recommended that you position subjects between 10-50 cm from the devic e. Plac e subjects that you want to f ocus on close to the device. • When taking photos, ensure ther e is sufficient distance between the subject and the background .
Camera 87 Launching Camer a on the locked scr een T o quickly take photos of special moments, launch Camer a on the locked screen. 1 On the locked screen, drag outside the large cir cle. 2 T ap the image on the preview screen wher e the camera should focus.
Camera 88 • V ir tual tour : T ake photos of a space by mo ving the device and shooting from diff erent angles to crea te a ster eoscopic image . The device identifies the phot o with in Galler y . • Dual Camera : T ake landscape photos or videos with the rear or the fr ont camera.
Camera 89 • Best face : T ake multiple group shots at the same time and c ombine them to crea te the best possible image. T ap the white frame on each face and choose the best individual pose for each subject from the poses that appear a t the bottom of the screen.
Camera 90 6 T ap to sa ve . T o get the best shot, follo w these tips. The device ma y not take photos properly in other shooting conditions. • Hold the camera steady and r emain still while taking photos. • T ake photos of a subject that is moving in one direction.
Camera 91 U sing vir tual tour mode About vir tual tour mode Use this shooting mode to take photos in a space b y moving f or wards , or rotating left or right. Photos of the space ar e taken from differ ent angles. Y ou can view the photos in a slideshow and simulate actually moving through the spac e.
Camera 92 5 Move with the device slo wly in the direc tion of the arro w . When the dot is in the centr e of the large cir cle, the device starts tak ing photos. Repeat this action to take mor e photos. T o see a preview of the photo , tap at the bottom left of the screen.
Camera 93 Applying filt er eff ec ts Use the filter eff ec ts to take unique photos or videos . 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen. 2 T ap → Effects , and then select an effect to apply . T o download more eff ec ts, tap Download . T o change the order of eff ec ts or hide effects from the list, tap Manage effects .
Camera 94 U sing remot e viewfinder mode Use your devic e as a viewfinder for another device. Y ou can control the other devic e remotely to take photos or videos fr om a distance. Y our device displays the same image that is display ed on the connected device.
