Getting star ted 11 U sing the SIM or USIM card and ba tter y Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . • Only microSIM car ds work with the device .
Getting star ted 12 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 13 4 Replace the back cov er . Pr ess Align 2 1 • Ensure that the back c over is closed tigh tly . • Use only Samsung-appro ved back co vers and accessories with the device . Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over .
Getting star ted 14 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out. Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the ba tter y by connecting them via the USB cable.
Getting star ted 15 2 Plug the USB cable into the multipurpose jack. • Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty . • Ensure that the the back c over is closed tigh tly to prev ent water and dust from entering the device .
Getting star ted 16 4 After fully charging , disconnect the device from the charger . First unplug the char ger from the device , and then unplug it from the electr ic socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the charger . This may damage the device .
Getting star ted 17 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device acc epts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 18 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 19 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 20 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
21 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 22 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 23 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 24 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. It displays widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.

Basics 26 Using My Magazine My Magazine displays liv e social net work updates and new s that you are inter ested in. T o activate My Magazine , tap and hold an empty area on the Home screen. Basics 27 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bott om of the screen.

P ersonalising 58 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way tha t you lock the scr een to prev ent others from accessing y our personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 59 F inger Scanner F or better fingerprint r ecognition When you scan y our finger prints on the device , be aware of the f ollowing conditions that may aff ect the feature ’ s per formance: • The Home button c ontains a fingerprint recog nition sensor .
P ersonalising 60 3 Place y our finger on the fingerprint area at the bottom c entre of the screen. 4 T ap and hold the screen in the fingerprint area, and then drag y our finger downwar ds over the Home butt on. Repeat this action using the same finger until the fingerprint is register ed.
P ersonalising 61 Changing the alt ernativ e password Y ou can change the passwor d that you use as an alternative t o scanning your fingerprints. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → F inger S canner → Change alternativ e password . 2 Enter the curren t alternative passw ord and tap Done .
P ersonalising 62 Using fingerprin ts for purchases via P ayP al Y ou can make purchases b y scanning your fingerprints. This f eature ma y not be available depending on the r egion or ser vice provider . 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → F inger S canner → P ay with P ayP al .

P ersonalising 65 Using Smart Switch Mobile Use this app to transf er data from your pr evious iPhone or Android device to y our new device. Y ou can download the app fr om Samsung Apps ( GALAXY Apps ) or Play St ore . 1 On your device , tap Smar t Swit ch Mobile .

Phone 69 Number prediction T ap Keypad . When entering numbers on the keypad , automatic pr edictions appear . Selec t one of these to make a call. Speed dial numbers T ap Keypad .
Phone 70 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If a call notification pop -up window appears while y ou are using an app , tap Answ er in the pop-up window . If the call waiting ser vice is activated, another call can be answ ered .

Multimedia 101 T o listen to songs at equal v olume levels, tap → Settings , and then tick Smar t volume . When Smar t volume is activated, the v olume may end up louder than the device volume lev el. Use caution t o av oid long-term exposure t o loud sounds to prev ent damage to your hearing .
Multimedia 102 Pla ying music by mood Use this f eature t o play music that suits y our mood. T ap Music on the Apps screen. T ap Music square . Songs are automatically ca tegorised by mood. T ap a mood cell or dr ag multiple cells to list en to the music in the cells .

Multimedia 104 Using the pop-up video play er Use this f eature t o use other apps without closing the video player . While watching videos , tap to use the pop-up video player . Spread two fingers apart on the screen to enlarge the pla yer or pinch to r educe it.
