Getting star ted 16 Charging the batt er y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the batt er y by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers, batt eries, and cables .
Getting star ted 17 3 Plug the USB power adapt or into an elec tric socket. r The device can be used while it is char ging, but it may take longer to fully char ge the batter y . r If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function.
Getting star ted 18 Using a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device accepts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB . Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with your device. r Some memor y cards may not be fully compatible with the devic e.
Getting star ted 19 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memor y card , first unmount it for saf e removal. On the Home scr een, tap Apps Settings Storage Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back co ver .
Getting star ted 20 T urning the device on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer button f or a few seconds to turn on the devic e. When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
Getting star ted 21 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also, the scr een turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
22 Basics Using the t ouch screen r Do not allow the touch scr een to come into contact with other electrical devices. Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. r T o avoid damag ing the touch screen, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply exc essive pressure to it with y our finger tips.
Basics 23 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to z oom in.
Basics 24 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the Apps scr een to see another panel. F lick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contac ts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 25 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for accessing all of the devic e’ s features . I t displays widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. W idgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf ormation and convenient acc ess on your Home screen.

Basics 27 Using My Magazine My Magazine displays liv e social net work updates and new s that you are interest ed in. T o activate My Magazine , tap and hold an empty area on the Home screen. T hen, tap Home screen settings and tick My Magazine . On the Home screen, tap or scroll right to open My Magazine .
Basics 28 Apps screen The Apps screen displa ys icons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the Apps screen. T o view other panels, scroll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bottom of the screen.
Basics 29 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the top of the screen. The icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar may not appear at the t op of the screen in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the screen.

Basics 36 Entering t ex t Keyboar d lay out A keyboard appears automatically when y ou enter text to send messages, creat e memos, and more . T ext entr y is not suppor ted in some languages. T o enter text, you must change the input language to one of the supported languages.

P ersonalising 56 Managing folders T o rename a f older , select a folder , and then tap the existing f older name. Enter a new name for the f older and tap Done . T o change the colour of a folder , select a folder , tap , and then select a colour . T o move mor e apps to a folder , tap and hold an app, and then drag it to the f older .

P ersonalising 59 Changing the screen lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the screen to pr event others from accessing y our personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings Lock scr een Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method.
P ersonalising 60 F inger Scanner F or better fingerprint r ecognition When you scan y our fingerprints on the device, be a ware of the follo wing conditions that may aff ec t the feature ’ s per formance: r The Home button contains a fingerprint r ecognition sensor .
P ersonalising 61 3 Place your finger on the fingerprint ar ea at the bottom centre of the screen. 4 T ap and hold the screen in the fingerprint area, and then drag y our finger downwards over the Home butt on. Repeat this action using the same finger until the fingerprint is register ed.
P ersonalising 62 Changing the alternativ e passwor d Y ou can change the password that you use as an alternativ e to scanning your fingerprints. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings F inger S canner Change alternativ e password . 2 Enter the current alt ernative password and tap Done .

P ersonalising 66 Using Smart Switch Mobile Use this app to transf er data from your previous iPhone or Andr oid device to your new device . Y ou can download the app from Samsung Apps ( GALA XY Apps ) or Play Store . 1 On your device , tap Smar t Swit ch Mobile .

68 Phone Mak ing calls T ap Phone on the Apps screen. Dual SIM models : T ap Keypad , enter a phone number , and then tap or to make a voice call , or tap to make a video call. Single SIM models : T ap Keypad , enter a phone number , and then tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call.
Phone 69 Making calls from call logs or contacts list T ap Logs or Contacts , and then drag a contact or a phone number to the right to make a call. T o deactivate the call by dragging an icon to the right f eature, tap Settings Contacts , and then deselect Swipe to call or send msg .
Phone 70 Number prediction T ap Keypad . When entering numbers on the keypad, aut omatic predic tions appear . S elect one of these to make a call. Speed dial numbers T ap Keypad .
Phone 71 Receiving calls Answering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the lar ge circle. If a call notification pop -up window appears while you ar e using an app, tap Answer in the pop-up window . If the call waiting ser vice is ac tivated , another call can be answered.
Phone 72 Options during calls During a voic e call The f ollowing actions are available: r : Increase the volume . r Add call : Dial a second call. r Keypad : Open the keypad. r End call : End the current call . r Speaker : Activate or deactivate the speakerphone.

Contacts 75 3 Place a business card on the flat surface and rotate the device to landscape orientation. 4 Adjust the device t o fit the card inside the frames on the screen.

Camera 90 4 Move slowly f or wards, or r otate lef t or right while taking photos. Whenever the dot is inside the large cir cle, the device takes a photo automatically . 5 Repeat this action to take more photos . T o see a preview of the photo , tap at the bottom left of the screen.
Camera 91 HDR (Rich tone) Use this mode to take photos with rich c olours and reproduce details ev en in bright and dark areas . On the Apps screen, tap Camera MODE HDR (Rich tone) . Multimedia 102 T o listen to songs at equal v olume levels, tap Settings , and then tick Smar t volume . When Smar t volume is activated, the volume ma y end up louder than the device volume lev el. Use caution t o avoid long-term exposure t o loud sounds to prevent damage to your hearing .
Multimedia 103 Playing music b y mood Use this featur e to play music that suits your mood . T ap Music on the Apps screen. T ap Music square . Songs are automatically categorised b y mood. T ap a mood cell or drag multiple cells to listen t o the music in the cells.
Multimedia 104 V ideo Playing videos T ap V ideo on the Apps screen. Selec t a video to pla y . Change screen ratio . Move f or wards or backwards by dragging the bar . Search for other devices to play the file. Skip to the previous video . T ap and hold to move backwards quickly.
