Getting star ted 9 The microphone a t the top of the device is active only when y ou use the speakerphone or take videos. • Do not cov er the antenna ar ea with your hands or other objects. This may cause connectivity problems or drain the battery .

Getting star ted 11 Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . • Only microSIM car ds work with the device . • Some L TE ser vices may not be available depending on the service provider .
Getting star ted 12 3 Push the SIM or USIM car d into the slot until it locks in place . • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 13 Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the ba tter y . 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card gently with your finger , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 14 Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the devic e by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 15 When using a USB 2.0 cable, plug the USB cable in to the right side of the multipurpose jack as shown in the image below . Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .

Getting star ted 17 Inser ting a memor y card Y our device accepts memor y cards with maximum capacities of 64 GB . D epending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 18 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home scr een, tap Apps Settings General Stor age Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Push the memory card until it disengages from the devic e, and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 19 Replacing the S P en nib While using the S P en, the S Pen nib ma y get dull. If the nib is dull, replace it with a new one . 1 Hold the nib with the tweezer firmly , and then pull it out. 2 Inser t a new nib into the S P en until you hear a click.
Getting star ted 20 T urning the devic e on and off When turning on the device f or the first time, f ollow the on-screen instructions to set up your device .

Basics 42 Using Multi W indow applications While using Multi Windo w applications, select an application window , tap the circle between the application windows , and then use one of the following: • : Open a list of recen tly-used applications in the selected window .
Basics 43 • Screen rota tion : Allow or pr event the int er face from r otating when you rotat e the device. • Bluetooth : Activate or deactivate the Bluet ooth featur e. • Reading mode : Activate or deactivate r eading mode. In reading mode, the device helps protect your ey es when reading at night.
Basics 44 Home screen The Home screen is the starting point to access all of the devic e ’ s featur es. I t display s indicator icons, widgets , shor tcuts to applications, and others . The Home screen can ha ve multiple panels. T o view other panels, scr oll left or r ight.
Basics 45 Moving an item T ap and hold an item and drag it t o a new location. T o move it to another panel , drag it to the side of the screen. Removing an item T ap and hold an item, and drag it t o the rubbish bin that appears at the top of the Home screen.
Basics 46 Using widgets Widgets ar e small applications that provide c onv enient functions and information on your Home screen. T o use them, add widgets from the widgets panel to the Home scr een. • Some widgets connect to web ser vices . Using a web-based widget may result in additional charges .

Basics 48 U sing applications This device can run man y different types of applications , ranging fr om media to Internet applications. Opening an application On the Home screen or the Applications scr een, selec t an application icon to open it . Some applications are gr ouped into folders .
Basics 49 Organising with f olders Put r elated applications together in a f older for con venience . T ap Edit , tap and hold an application, and then drag it to Crea te folder . Enter a f older name and then tap OK . Put applica tions into the new f older by dragg ing, and then tap S ave to sav e the ar rangement.
Basics 50 One -handed operation Y ou can ac tivate one -handed operation mode f or your conv enience. In this mode, application inter faces ar e modified for easy use with one hand . On the Applications screen, tap Settings Con trols One -handed operation .

Basics 53 C opying and pasting T ap and hold ov er text, drag or to select more or less text, and then tap Cop y to cop y or Cut to cut. The selected text is copied to the clipboard. Basics 54 A dding W i-F i networks If the desired network does not appear in the networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the networks list. Enter the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passwor d if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Basics 55 T ransf erring files Move audio , video , image, or other types of files from the devic e to the computer , or vice versa. • The f ollowing file f ormats are supported by some applications. Some file f ormats are not supported depending on the version of the device ’ s software or the computer opera ting system.

Mak ing calls Mak ing a call Use one of the f ollowing methods: • Keypad : Enter the number using the keypad , and then tap . • Logs : Make a call from the history of incoming and outgoing calls and messages.
Communication 61 F inding contacts Enter a name , phone number , or email address to find a c ontact in the contacts list. As characters are ent ered, pr edic ted contacts appear . Selec t one to place a call to it . Mak ing an interna tional call T ap and hold 0 until the + sign appears.
Communication 62 • Con tacts : Open the contacts list. • Action Memo : Launch Action Memo. • Message : Send a message. • T ransfer : Connect the first par ty to the second par ty . This disconnects you from the con versation.
Communication 63 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle. If the call waiting ser vice is active, another call can be made . When the second call is answer ed, the first call is put on hold . Rejec ting a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle.
Communication 64 Call f or warding The device can be set t o send incoming calls to a specified number . T ap Call settings Additional settings Call f or warding , and then select a call type and condition.

Communication 70 Messages Use this application to send t ex t messages (SMS) or multimedia messages (MMS). T ap Messages on the Applications screen. Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or r eceiving messages while you are outside your home service area.
Communication 71 Sending scheduled messages While composing a message , tap Scheduling . Set a time and date, and then tap Done . The device will send the message at the specified time and da te . • If the device is turned off at the scheduled time, is not connected to the network, or the network is unstable, the message will not be sent.
Communication 72 Email Use this application to send or view email messages . T ap Email on the Applications screen. Setting up email accoun ts Set up an email account when opening Email for the first time .
Communication 73 Reading messages Selec t an email accoun t to use , and new messages are retriev ed. T o manually retriev e new messages, tap . T ap a message to r ead. Open attachments. Reply to the message. Add this email addr ess to the contacts list.
Communication 74 Google M ail Use this application to quickly and directly access the Google Mail ser vice. Media 100 Modifying images When viewing an image, tap and use the follo wing functions: • Rot ate : Rotate the image . • Crop : Crop the image . • Colour : Adjust the satur ation or brightness of the image. • Effect : Apply effects to the image .
Media 101 Mak ing image collages In a folder , tap Selec t item , select t wo t o four images by ticking, and then tap Crea te collage . Selec t a style at the bottom of the screen, and then tap . T o add images , tap . T o delete images , tap .
Media 102 T agging fac es T ap Settings , and then tick F ace tag . A yellow fr ame appears around the recognised face . T ap the face , tap Add name , and then select or add a contact. When the face tag appears on an image , tap the face tag and use available options, such as making calls or sending messages.
Media 103 Crea ting stor y albums Creat e stor y albums by selecting images from Galler y or images sor ted by tag inf ormation. T ap , and then select an option. Select images from Galler y . Utilities 126 Clock Use this application to set alarms , check the time of many major cities in the world, measur e the duration of an ev ent, or set a timer .
Utilities 127 Stopping alarms Drag outside the large cir cle to stop an alarm. Drag outside the large circle to r epeat the alarm after a specified length of time. Deleting alarms T ap and hold the alarm, and then tap Delete . W orld clock Crea ting clocks T ap Add city , and then enter a city name or select a cit y from the cities list.
Utilities 128 Calcula tor Use this application f or simple or complex calculations. T ap Calculat or on the Applications screen. Rotate the device t o landscape orientation to display the scien tific calculator . If Screen rotation is disabled, tap Scientific calculator .
Utilities 129 T o edit the pr ofile, tap Settings Edit profile . Based on your ph ysical statistics, the device calculat es your basal metabolic ra te (BMR) and recommends a daily caloric intake . The recommenda tion may not be accurat e for all ages , body compositions, or nutritional needs.
Utilities 130 Using the W alk ing mat e Set a target number of steps and track y our daily steps and burned calor ies. On the S Health home screen, tap W alking mate . Star t your st ep count. Acc ess the S Health menu screen. View the logs of y our daily steps.
