Getting star ted 10 Installing the SIM or USIM card and batt er y Inser t the SIM or USIM card provided b y the mobile telephone ser vice provider , and the included battery . 1 Remove the back c over . Be careful not to damage y our finger nails when you r emove the back cov er .
Getting star ted 11 ► Single SIM models : Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold-coloured con tacts facing down wards . • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 12 4 Replace the back cov er . Removing the SIM or USIM car d 1 Remove the back c over . 2 ► Dual SIM models : P ull out the battery , and then the SIM or USIM card.
Getting star ted 13 Char ging the ba tter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time. A computer can be also used to charge the devic e by connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 14 • The device can be used while it is char ging , but it may take longer to fully char ge the battery . • If the device receiv es an unstable power supply while charging , the touch screen may not function. If this happens, unplug the charger from the devic e.
Getting star ted 15 Reducing the batter y c onsumption Y our device provides options that help y ou save ba tter y pow er . By customising these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.

Getting star ted 19 S witching bet w een net w orks (dual SIM models) When you insert t wo SIM or USIM car ds, you can use two diff erent subscriptions without the need to carr y two devices at the same time . Activate two cards and switch between them when making calls or sending messages.

Basics 22 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o mov e an icon, thumbnail, or preview t o a new location, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 23 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pplications screen t o see another panel. F lick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list, such as contacts. Pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 24 C ontrol motions Simple motions allow easy contr ol of the device. Befor e using motions, make sur e the motion featur e is ac tivated . On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → My device → Motions and gestures → Motion , and then drag the Motion switch to the right.
Basics 25 Picking up When you pick up the devic e after it has been idle for some time or when the scr een has turned off , it vibrates if you ha ve missed calls or new messages. T urning o ver T ur n ov er the device to mut e ringtone, pause media pla yback, or mute the FM radio (when using the speaker).
Basics 26 P alm motions Use palm motions to c ontrol the device b y touching the screen. Befor e using motions, make sur e the palm motion featur e is ac tivated . On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → My device → Motions and gestures → P alm motion , and then drag the P alm motion switch to the right.
Basics 27 A c tiva ting Multi W indow Use this f eature t o run two applications on the screen at the same time . • Only applications on the Multi Windo w panel can run. • When launching applications that c ontain multimedia files, such as music or videos, sound fr om both files will be play ed.
Basics 28 Using Multi W indow applications While using Multi Windo w applications, tap or and use one of the follo wing: • : Switch loca tions between Multi Window applica tions. • : Maximise the window to fit the screen. • : Close the application.
Basics 29 • Sync : Activate or deactivate aut o-syncing of applications. • Fligh t mode : Activate or deactivate fligh t mode. The av ailable options may vary depending on the region or ser vice pro vider .
Basics 30 Moving an item T ap and hold an item and drag it t o a new location. T o move it to another panel , drag it to the side of the screen. Removing an item T ap and hold an item, and drag it t o the rubbish bin that appears at the top of the Home screen.
Basics 31 Using widgets Widgets ar e small applications that provide c onv enient functions and information on your Home screen. T o use them, add widgets from the widgets panel to the Home scr een. • Some widgets connect to web ser vices . Using a web-based widget may result in additional charges .
Basics 32 T ap the widgets panel area at the upper part of the screen. Scroll right to the last page , tap , and then select a widget to add to the locked screen. Rearranging panels Moving a panel Scroll left or right on the widgets panel area, tap and hold a panel preview , and then drag it to a new location.
Basics 33 Opening from r ecently-used applica tions Pr ess and hold the Home button to open the list of recen tly-used applications. Selec t an application icon t o open. Closing an application Close applications not in use to sa ve battery power and maintain devic e per formance .
Basics 34 Installing applications Use application stor es, such as Samsung Apps , to download and install applications . Uninstalling applications T ap → Uninstall , and then select an application to uninstall it. Default applications that come with the device cannot be uninstalled .
Basics 35 Using the Samsung ke yboard Break to the next line. Delete a preceding char acter . Enter punctuation marks. Enter uppercase . Set options for the Samsung keyboard. Enter a space . Entering upper case T ap befor e entering a charac ter . F or all caps, tap it twice.
Basics 36 C opying and pasting T ap and hold ov er text, drag or to select more or less text, and then tap Cop y to cop y or Cut to cut. The selected text is copied to the clipboard. T o paste it in to a text entr y field, plac e the cursor at the point where it should be inserted, and then tap → P aste .
Basics 37 F orgetting W i-Fi net w orks Any network that has ev er been used, including the current network, can be forgott en so the device will not automatically c onnec t to it.
Basics 38 T ransf erring files Move audio , video , image, or other types of files from the devic e to the computer , or vice versa. The f ollowing file f ormats are supported by some applications. Some file f ormats are not suppor ted depending on the version of the devic e’ s sof tware or the computer operating syst em.
Basics 39 C onnec ting with W indow s Media Play er Ensure that Window s Media Player is installed on the c omputer . 1 Connect the device to the comput er using the USB cable. 2 Open Windo ws Media Play er and sync music files. C onnec ting as a media device 1 Connect the device to the comput er using the USB cable.
Basics 40 Setting a face and v oice unlock On the Applications screen, tap Settings → My device → Lock scr een → Screen lock → F ace and v oice . F it your face in the frame to be captur ed and then set a voice command. Then, set a backup unlock PIN or pattern to unlock the scr een in case the face and voice unlock fails.
Basics 41 Setting a passwor d On the Applications screen, tap Settings → My device → Lock scr een → Screen lock → P asswor d . Enter at least f our charac ters including numbers and symbols , and then enter the passw ord again to verify it.
Basics 42 Upgr ading ov er the air The device can be dir ec tly upgraded to the lat est sof tware by the firmw are ov er-the -air (FO T A) service. On the Applications screen, tap Settings → Mo re → About device → Sof tware upda te → Update .

Communication 44 F inding contacts Enter a name , phone number , or email address to find a c ontact in the contacts list. As characters are ent ered, pr edic ted contacts appear . Selec t one to place a call to it . Mak ing an interna tional call ► Dual SIM models : T ap and hold 0 until the + sign appears .
Communication 45 Adding c ontac ts T o add a phone number to the c ontac ts list from the keypad , enter the number and tap Add to con tacts . Sending a message T ap → Send message to send a message to the number on displa y . V iewing call logs T ap Logs to view the history of incoming and outgoing calls.
Communication 46 Receiving calls Answ ering a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large circle . If the call waiting ser vice is active, another call can be made . When a second call comes in, end or hold the first call. Rejec ting a call When a call comes in, drag outside the large cir cle.

Communication 55 Sending scheduled messages While composing a message , tap → Scheduled email . Tick Scheduled email , set a time and date , and then tap Done .
Communication 56 Google M ail Use this application to quickly and directly access the Google Mail ser vice. W eb & network 62 Searching the w eb by voic e T ap the address field , tap , speak a keywor d, and then selec t one of the suggested keywords that appear . Syncing with other de vices Sync open tabs and bookmarks to use with Chrome on another device , when you ar e logged in with the same Google account.
W eb & network 63 P airing with other Bluetooth devices On the Applications screen, tap Settings → Connections → Bluetooth → Scan , and detected devices are list ed. Select the device you want t o pair with, and then accept the aut o - generated passkey on both devic es to confirm.
W eb & network 64 Sending files Send files to other devices or upload them to w eb storage ser vices. Selec t a device , tap , select files, and then tap Done . Sharing files Selec t a device or w eb storage , tap , selec t files, tap Done , and then select a sharing method.
W eb & network 65 Crea ting a group f or Group Pla y Selec t one of the f ollowing fea tures: • Share music : Selec t music files to shar e. Y ou can c onnect t wo or mor e devices and use them to achieve a surr ound sound effect. • Share images : Selec t images to shar e.

Media 67 Setting a song as ringtone T o use the curren tly-playing song as ringtone , tap → Set as → Phone ringtone . Crea ting playlists Make an own selection of songs. T ap Playlists , and then tap → Crea te playlist . Enter a title and tap OK .
Media 68 T ak ing photos T ak ing a photo T ap the image on the preview scr een where the camera should focus . When the subject is in focus , the focus frame turns green. T ap to take the photo . Indicates which shooting mode is in use. Star t taking a video.

Utilities 84 When jotting down a memo , tap onc e more to change the pen type, line thickness, or pen colour . When erasing the handwritten memo , tap once more t o change the eraser size or tap Clear all to clear the memo . View mor e colours. Change the line thickness.

100 Settings About Settings Use this application to c onfigure the device, set application options , and add accounts. T ap Settings on the Applications screen. Suppor ted f eatures ma y differ or be labelled diff erently depending on whether your device is a single or dual SIM model.
Settings 101 Setting Network notification The device can det ect open Wi-F i networks and display an icon on the sta tus bar to notify when available . On the Settings screen, tap Connections → Wi - Fi → → Adv anced and tick Network notification to activate this f eature .
Settings 102 • Show W i-Fi usage : Set the device to show y our data usage via Wi-F i. • Mobile hotspots : Selec t W i-F i hotspots to prevent applica tions that are running in the background fr om using them. More networks Cust omise settings to contr ol net works.
