12 Safety Seats Both front seats are elec trically operated. On certai n model s the driv er´s seat is equ ip- ped with a memory fun c tion. To facil itate g etting in to the car, bo th seats can be adjus ted when eithe r of the front doors is open .

15 Safety Electric hea ting, front seats (if equipped) Both front seats have adjus table and ther- mostat-c ontrolled heati ng of the s eat cushio n and backrest, avai lable as an option. Heatin g is a djust able in th ree stages. In positio n 0 it is turned off.
16 Safety Rear-seat head r estraints 9-5 Sedan: The rear he ad rest raints ha ve three adjus tment positi ons for passen ger comfort. They c an al so be fol ded do wn to incr eas e the driver’ s rearward vision when the seat is unoccu pied.
17 Safety The safety bel t pretensi oners are not acti- vated by veh icle roll over. Correct position for safety belt • P osition th e lap stra p snug ly an d low across th e hips s o that it just to uches th e thighs . The s houlder strap m ust be as f ar in on the shoulder as possib le .

19 Safety Safety belt use dur ing pregnancy Pregnant w ome n must always wear a safety b elt to protect bo th them selves and the unbo rn chi ld. The lap belt should be place d low, a cross the hips and o ver the up per thi ghs. Safety belt, rear seat Three-poi nt safety b elts are provided for all three rear seat pas sengers.

23 Safety LATCH installat ion To facil itate t he proper f i tting of n ew spe ci- ally-des igned child re strain ts, rigid lower anchorag es (ISOFIX) have bee n installed to the vehi cle t hat sh all be us ed with the to p tether anchorages in the two outboa rd rear seating posi tions.

26 Safety Lockable belt tongue In fit ting a ch ild seat that is inten ded to be secured in position by the lap portio n of the safety b elt, mak e use of t he locking fun ction of the buckle . Lockin g the l ap port ion of the belt l essens the risk that th e seat w ill work loose while the car i s in motion.

33 Safety AIRBAG warning light WARNING • If the airbag readiness lig ht stays on afte r yo u st art you r ve hic le, it mean s the airbag s ystem may not be workin g prope rly. See pa ge 55. The airba gs in your ve hicle may no t infla te in a crash, or the y could even inflate w ithou t a crash.
34 Safety What Will You See Aft er an Airbag Infl ates? After an ai rbag inflates, i t quickl y deflates, so quic kly that so me pe ople may not e ven realize the ai rbag infla ted.
35 Safety AIRBAG servicing The airb ag must be i nspected as part o f the normal s ervic e prog ram but ot herwise may be regarded as ma intenance-free.
36 Safety How do I p osi tion th e sea t t o le ave r oo m for the airba g to in flate? Don’ t have your sea t too f ar forwar d. Recli ne the seat back to inc rease the dis- tance be tween you and th e airbag. For short driver s, speci al acc essor y pedal ex tensio ns are avai lable through y our Saab dealer.

38 Security Doors Door handles Pull the handl e to open the do or. If the do or is stuc k (e.g. i f frozen), h o ld the handle f rom above to se cure a better grip. Central locking Key / Remote contro l The key uni t consists of a mec hanic al key with int egrated rem ote contro l.
39 Securit y To chec k the number of keys that ar e pro- grammed fo r the car; see page 48. Locking/unlocki ng the car When the c ar is locked and un locked t he theft alarm is a lso affec ted. Remote lo cking (1) Press once on the control: all doors locked.
40 Security Locking by key (1 ) When the car is locked and u nlock ed the theft alar m is also affecte d. Turn the ke y clo ckwis e: al l door s lo cked. The trun k/tailgate rele ase s witch on the dri- ver’s d oor will not work w hen all doors are locked.
41 Securit y Child safety lock s The rear d oors are equippe d with child safety l ocks th at are o perated by mea ns of a catch adjacent to the door lock. Inser t a key and turn the catc h 45 ° cloc kwise or counter clockw ise as indic ated by the label on the door.
42 Security Trunk lid l ock, 9-5 Sedan The trunk lid lo ck is in dependent of t he cen- tral-lock ing sys tem. The trunk l id releas e switch o n the driver’s d oor is inoperati ve when th e car is locked from the outside or moving at a spe ed grea ter than 2.
43 Securit y Tailgate, 9-5 SportWagon The tailg ate is not unloc ked whe n the other car doors are unloc ked. Th e tailg ate button on the dri v er’s doo r is inoperative when the car is l ocked o r moving at a speed grea ter than 2.7 mp h (4 km/h).
44 Security Ca r alarm The ca r al arm (a nt i-th eft system ) is acti - vated/de activated when t he car is locked /unloc ked by the rem ote cont rol or by the key , see page 39. The ant enna for the ala rm sys tem is loc ated in the c enter c onsole.
45 Securit y Check to ensure that all the do ors, plus trunk li d/tailg ate and h ood, are closed pro- perly. If the fau l t persis ts (LED flas hing when another at tempt is made to ac tivate the car alarm by remote co ntrol), lock the c ar using the key i nstea d.
46 Security Alarm signals When the car alarm is a rmed, i t will be trig- gered if an y door, or the trunk lid or hood , is opened. The alar m will al so be trig gered if an attemp t is mad e to bypa ss or short-circ uit the ig ni- tion swit ch, or to disconne ct the battery .
47 Securit y Overview of funct ions Alarm s ignals m ay diffe r between mode l variant s for d ifferent count ries. Some of th e car-alarm functions can be reprogrammed – con- sult your Saab dealer for further details (see page 264). Loc king/ activ ation Hazard warning l ights fla sh on ce.

52 Instru ment s and contr ols Indicator and warnin g lights A number of ind icator and warning light s will come on whe n the igniti on is switch ed on prior to s tarting. U nder norm al condi tions, these sh ould go out a few seconds after the engine h as starte d (see page 58).
53 Instruments and controls This ligh t will come on together with if the engin e oil pressure is dange rously low. If the li ght flashes or comes o n while you are driving, stop the ca r, switc h off the e ngine and che ck th e engine oil level (see page 186 ).
54 Instru ment s and contr ols This lig ht will s how wh en the park ing bra ke is on (s ee page 179). If the car is driven w ith the parki ng brake still on, will also come on an d a chi me w ill sound. The park ing brake is mechanical and opera- tes on t he rear wheels .
55 Instruments and controls This ligh t together with will come on if a potenti ally seriou s fault has occu rred in the ai rbag syst em. The ligh t will com e on for about th ree second s when the ign ition switch is tu rned to the Star t or Drive pos ition.

57 Instruments and controls On a c ar with an a utomat ic transm ission , this w arning symbol is il luminate d if a fault has bee n detected i n the t ransmi ssion. Switch the ig nition o ff and on ag ain to ch eck if the fa ult persists. Even if the fa ult persists, it is still po ssib le in most cas es to dri v e the car (s ee page 146).

59 Instruments and controls Speedometer (U.S. speedomete r shown) The speed ometer receives signals fro m the wheel sensors in the ABS system. If the NIG HT PANEL mo de has be en selec- ted, t he scale will b e illuminat ed up to 8 7 mph (140 km /h).

If the ne edle repeatedly enters th e red zone, stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so and check the co olant level by look ing at the level visi ble thro ugh t he p lasti c tan k – do not remove the ca p.

70 Instru ment s and contr ols Front fog li ghts (if equipped) The front f og lights can be activat ed in both low be am headl ight and parkin g light posi- tions. F og lights sho uld on ly be us ed in poor visibi lity condit ions. Make su re you are familiar w ith the app- licable provin cial/sta te law regarding th e use of fog lights.
71 Instruments and controls Wipers an d wash ers There are three inter mittent wi per positions. Moving the contr ol stalk to the spring-loa- ded posi tion between 0 an d 2 will pro duce a single sweep o f the wipers. The wi pers ar e designe d for optimal c lea- ning a t all driving speeds.
72 Instru ment s and contr ols Activate the sys tem by l ifting the control stalk to posi tion 1. The wi pers mak e one sweep for referenc e to see how much w ater and snow is on the wi ndshield. In future, the sensor compar es the am ount of w ater and snow o n the wind shield with this ref erence value .
