12 Wi re – W ir e Requirements & HOW – Painting the Speaker Frames and Grilles WIRE CONSIDERA TIONS When purc hasing speaker wire, you will need t o select the proper gauge, de termine the length, and c hoose the brand. Wire is measured in gauges: the higher the number , the thinner the wire.
HOW – Painting the Speaker Frames and Grilles 13 TO P AINT SPEAKERS THA T HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED AND INST ALLED: R emo ve the speaker grilles from the frames, being careful not t o damage the paint. Use a small pointed object and star t at the corner or edge of the grille.
14 HOW - Cutting W all/Ceiling Opening for Speakers HOW - CUTTING W ALL/CEILING OPENING FOR SPEAKER The following st eps outline how t o locate a section of w all betw een two studs, mark the outer boundaries of the hole, drill a small hole in the center to v erify the location and then cut the main hole.
15 HOW - Cutting W all/Ceiling Openings for Speakers Carefully score the penciled outline of the t emplate with a sharp utility knife to a void c hipping paint or tear- ing wallpaper . Then use a keyhole/drywall saw t o cut along the scored line. Mak e sure you don ’t make it an y larger than the mark ed outline.
16 HOW – Hooking up the Speakers HOW – HOOKING UP SPEAKERS IDENTIFYING POSITIVE AND NEGA TIVE (“+” AND “-”) Speaker wir e consists of two conductors, and the wire should be manufactured so you can discriminat e betw een the two.
17 HOW – Hooking up the Speakers CONNECT TO THE AMPLIFIER (NO WALL CONNECTOR PLA TE) 1. Cut of f ex cess wire, leaving enough to easily r each from the wall opening to y our stereo system. If ther e’ s a possi- bility that you ma y move the amplifier to another part of the room, consider lea ving some excess wire coiled up.
