Server R S V - S 8 U s e r M a n u a l 1 Redundant Array of Independent Devi ces, a metho d of combining drives to pr ovide be tter pr otection and/or performance. 2 Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting T esting. * For 3132, this re quires the use of a Po rt Multiplier de vice to access mor e than one dis k per SA T A cha nnel.
Server R S V - S 8 U s e r M a n u a l 2 AN INTRODUCTION TO RAID 2.1 RAID VOLUMES RAID technology allo ws one or mor e disks to be co mbined into a logical volu me which provides greater performance and/or p rotection tha n standard di sk drives.
Server R S V - S 8 U s e r M a n u a l 2.3 RAID LEVELS 2.3.1 DISK STRIPING (RAID 0) Striping is a performance- oriented, non-redund ant data mapping technique. While St riping is discussed as a RAID Grou p type, it is does not pr ovide any faul t tolerance.
Server R S V - S 8 U s e r M a n u a l Parity RAID uses less capacity for pr otection and is the pr eferr ed method to r educe the co st per megabyte for lar ger installations. Mirr oring req uires 100% incr ea se in capaci ty to protect the data whereas the abo ve example using thr ee har d drives only re quires a 5 0% incr ease.
