It also supports the latest SA T A enhancements including SA T A-II Port Multiplier support, and up to 3Gbit/sec tr ansfer rates on contr ollers that support th at speed.

While St riping is discussed as a RAID Grou p type, it is does not pr ovide any faul t tolerance.

The data is written to RAID Gr oup A, which is mirror ed (RAID 1) and provi des data redundan cy . Alternating blocks of data ar e then striped acr oss anothe r RAID 1 mirror ed set, shown as S et B in the figure abo ve.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l 2.3.6 SINGLE DRIVE / SEGMENT The single drive i s a virtual disk that can either be an entir e disk drive or a segm ent of a single disk d rive. Single drive is the “Contig uous” configuration opti on when creating RAID Groups (or sets) in the SA T ARAID5 software.

Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Click Ye s to pass the Microsoft digital signa ture and continue th e installation. When the Silicon Image Sil3132 SoftRaid 5 Controller install ation has completed, click Finish , and begin to the Silicon Image’ s Pseudo Processor Device driver installation.

Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l 3.3.2 INST ALLING SA T ARAID5 UTILITY Follow the descripti ons below , and step by step to complete th e installation. Open the Setup and Install ation Repository CD and select t he SA T ARAID5 Array Manager softwar e from the Utility folder .
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Select Place shortcut on Desktop , than click Next> to create a shor tcut on the desktop. Click Next> to use the default installation folder .
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l When SA T ARAID5 installation has completed, click Clos e to exit. Select I agree the terms in the license agr eement, than click Next> to begin the Java platform installation. Select Ty p i c a l , than click Next>.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l When Java platform insta llation has completed, click Finish to exit. Select Start > Programs > Silicon Image > SA T ARaid5Manager to start the Ar ray Manager softwa re. 3.3.3 DISK DRIVE MODE SETUP Please r efer to the chapter 4.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Select Disk Management under Storage to view the disk drives. When Write Signatur e and Upgrade Disk Wizar d appears, click Next>.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Do no t click any disk to upgrade to dynamic di sk, than click Next> . When the Write Signature and Up grade Disk Wizar d has completed, click Finish. Right-cli ck on the Unallocated partition and select Create Partition … from the pop-up menu.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Click Next> to create a p artition on a basic disk. Selec t the partition type y ou want to cr eate, than click Next> .
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l Assig n the drive letter or path you want to cr eate, than click Next> . Click Format this partition with the following settings and Perform a Quick Format , setup the File system to use, Allocation unit size, V olume label, than click Ne xt>.
Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l The sta tus of the newly cr eated p artition in the Disk Management window should change to Formatting and the percentage compl ete will be displayed. Depending upon the si ze of the partition, the format process may take several minut es.

Server R S V - S 5 U s e r M a n u a l 4 SA T ARAID5 ARRA Y MANAGER 4.1 OVERVIEW The SA T ARAID5 Array Manager is the Graphi cal User Interfa ces (GUI) which allows you to create and manage RAID volumes. The Manager initia lly sho ws two windows as se en below .
