It is availab l e in several mod e ls: 2 to 8 ports , either serial or parallel, and Centronics tyhpe connectors or Db25 type connectors.

They ma y be used on serial or parallel units. To enable process i ng of configuration comman ds, depress both of the unit's front panel s w itches.

If you enter a protocol that blocks communication with the unit or is otherwise undesirable , and you have not used KEEP, you may resto r e the previous format by powering the u n it down and back up.
CARETAKER PLUS INSTALLA TION AND OPERAT IONS MANUAL 15 Parallel Enable Log i c Command This command allows the Caretaker Plus to recognize when a computer t hat is connected to a para l lel port on the Ca retaker Plus is turned off so that the Caretaker Plus will not accep t data from the PC.

CARETAKER PLUS INSTALLA TION AND OPERAT IONS MANUAL 17 Buffer Characte ri stics The switch ma y h ave a buffer me mory of 16K, 256K, 512K, 1 megabyte, or 2 megabytes. The Caretaker Plus uses an intelligent algorithm to allocate memor y. The buffer is dynam ically allocated which means that any port ca n utilize as much buffer as required.
18 CARETAKER PLUS INSTALLA TION AND OPERAT IONS MANUAL Timeout The default setting of 20 seconds is sufficient for most applications. Some compu t ers, however, start p r inting and then pause to do some type of calculation or processing an d then resume prin t ing.
CARETAKER PLUS INSTALLA TION AND OPERAT IONS MANUAL 19 Initializa tion String The initialization string is used to reset t h e printer to a de f ined state a t the beginning of each job. In this way the p rinter settings of the last person to print do not af f ect the print settings o f the next person to print.
20 CARETAKER PLUS INSTALLA TION AND OPERAT IONS MANUAL Power Up Initia l Displa y W he n powering on, the Caretaker Plus goes t hrough a power up self-test which checks the main functi o ns of its electronics. T he leftmost LED labe le d POWER should glow green and the othe r red LEDs should all turn on.

Sinc e the Caretaker Plus has no static ram, this test is displayed as sho w n in TABLE 6 for consi stency w ith oth er Rose products. Non-volatile Ram Te sts The fourth and f inal power up test is for th e non-volatile memory.

The unit does not conta in any jumpers or se rvi ceable parts insi de. Opening the unit invalidates the warranty except in the case of an authorized memory upgrade or firmware updates.
