11 C onnecting a Keyboar d By using the VP-7 in conjunction with a keyboard, y ou’ll be able t o control y our performance expression in greater detail .
12 C onnecting Headphones or Speakers The VP-7 does not con tain speakers. In order to hear sound , you ’ll need to connec t it to an audio device , such as monitor speakers or a stereo system, or c onnect headphones.
13 C onnecting a M icr ophone A microphone is indispensable when performing with the VP -7. The VP-7 models v ocal sounds by using your v oice that is input via the microphone . 922 * This instrument is equipped with balanced (XLR/TRS) type jacks. Wiring diagrams for these jacks are shown below .
14 C onnecting a Foot P edal The VP-7 allo ws you to c onnect a foot pedal (DP series; sold separately). If you connec t a foot pedal (DP series; sold separately) to the FOOT PEDAL jack on the rear panel, you’ll be able to use your foot to operate the function of the [Bypass] button (p .

16 Adjusting the V olume 1. T urn the [Volume] knob to adjust the VP-7’ s overall v olume. MEMO For best r esults, adjust the contr ols of your amp and speaker so that the volume is appropriat e when the [ Volume] knob is in the range between 12 o ’ clock and 2 o’ clock , as shown in the illustration.
17 Mic Input L ev el (Mic) Here ’ s how to adjust the level of the input from the microphone c onnected to the MIC IN jack on the rear panel. Y our voice will be distorted if the microphone input level is t oo high. Noise will be heard if the microphone input lev el is too lo w .
18 The Human V oice section lets you perform with realistic choir sounds simply by playing the keyboard . Selec ting a Human V oice Press one of the Human Voice buttons so it’ s lit (green); now you can play the Human V oic e section. If one of the Human V oice sounds is selec ted, the indicator of tha t sound button will light green.
19 By singing into the microphone while y ou press chords on the keyboard , you can add harmonies to the sound of your v oice. Selec ting a V ocal D esigner Sound T o play the V ocal D esigner section, press one of the V ocal Designer sound buttons so its indicat or is lit (red).
20 P er forming with the V ocoder By playing the keyboard while you sing into the microphone , you can perform a v ariety of vocoder sounds , r anging from vintage vocoders to the lat est electro-types. 21 Selec ting a V ariation Sound Y ou can choose from seven dieren t variation sounds. While holding down the [ V ocoder] button, press one of the Human Voice or V ocal Designer buttons t o select a variation sound. Like the vocoder sounds , the variation sounds will genera te harmony based on the pit ch of the notes y ou play on the keyboar d.

23 Adjusting the V olume Balance (Harmony) Here ’ s how to adjust the v olume balance betw een the dir ect sound from the microphone and the Human Voice/V ocal Designer/ V ocoder sound. 1. Press notes on the k eyboard , and vocalize int o the microphone.
24 Outputting O nly the Direct Sound from the Micr ophone (Bypass) When you turn on the power , the VP -7 will start up with Human V oice/Vocal Designer/V ocoder turned on. By pressing the [Bypass] button, y ou can mute the Human Voice/V ocal Designer/V ocoder sound.
25 Adjusting the Dynamics (Dynamics) The way in which the Vocal Designer/V ocoder dynamics will respond to changes in the microphone input volume can be ad- justed over a range of sev en levels. Changes y ou make in this value are stor ed in the unit.
26 T uning ( T une) When performing with an ensemble, you’ll need t o adjust the VP-7’ s pitch to match the other instruments. T o do this, turn the [ TUNE] k nob located on the VP -7’ s rear panel. • T urning the knob toward the position will adjust the pitch of the A4 note toward the 438 Hz or 439 Hz settings.
27 Using the VP -7 in C ombina tion with a Sequencer By connec ting a sequencer , you can use the VP-7 to generate harmony within your studio project, allowing it to be used as a component in your song productions.

29 Changing the Settings Changing the F unction of the O utput L/R Jacks ( Output Mode) Y ou can specify whether the output L/R jacks will output a conv entional stereo sig nal, or whether the L -jack will output only the Human V oice/V ocal Designer/V ocoder sound while the R-jack outputs only the dir ect sound.
