5 CONNECT ING POWER Using AC Power You can po wer y our telephone cassette recorder from AC po wer using an o p- tiona l AC ad apter, such as Radi oShack Cat. No. 273-1662 . Caution: You m ust use a 120V AC/ 6V DC adapte r that d elivers at least 300 milli amps.
6 IN STALLATI ON You can conne ct the t elepho ne c ass ette recorder directly t o the phone line or a single phone. Select a location for your telephon e casset te recorder that is out of the way of normal activities.
7 Note: Plug the du al-prong cord’s plug into the large r m odular j ack and the handset cord’s plug i nto the sm a lle r jack . 3. Insert the handset adapter i nto the telep hone’s modular hands et jack.
8 OPE RATION SETTI NG T HE BE EP You can set the telepho ne casset te re- corder to beep every 1 5 secon ds whi le recording. Note: Y ou mi ght be legally req uired to set BEEP TONE to ON when recording, so all part ies know the conversation is being recorded.
9 2. Press RECO RD . Bo th RECORD and PLA Y lock down. W hen RECORD is pressed down , every call made or received is rec orded. Notes: •I f y o u s e t REC MODE to VOX , when bot h parties are silent for about 5 seconds, t he re corder stops rec ording unt il someone starts speaking agai n.
10 Sett ing the Reco rding Spee d Set SPEED to EXT (extended) to record at a slower speed and a l ower quality than regul ar speed, b ut ex tend the re- cording time. Tapes recorded with SPEED se t to EXT m ust be pl ayed back with the recorder set to EXT .
11 PLAYING A T APE 1. Set SPEED to the desire d tape spee d (see “Setting t he Rec ording Speed” on Page 10). 2. Press PLA Y . Pl ayback begins. Note: Pr e ss P AUSE to temporarily stop the ta pe while you play it . Press PA U S E again to resume play .

14 Clea ning the T ape -Handlin g Part s Dirt, dust, or pa rticles of t he tape’s coa t- ing can ac cumulat e on the tape heads and other pa rts that the tape touche s. This can greatly redu ce the telephone cassette recorder’s performance. Use the following cle aning proc edure after about every 20 hours of operation.
