8 ELECTRICAL DOUBLE INSULA TION Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need for the usual three-wire grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the inter nal metal motor components with pr otect- ing ins ulation.

12 FEA TURES MITER FENCE The miter fence on your compound miter saw has been provided to hold your workpiece secur ely against, when making all cuts. The sliding miter fence on the left side is also lar ger providing additional support.

14 ASSEMBL Y UNP ACKING This product r equires assembly . Carefully lift saw fr om the carton by the carrying handle and the saw base, and place it on a level work surface. NOTE: This tool is heavy . T o avoid back injury , lift with your legs, not your back, and get help when needed.
15 NOTE: Many of the illustrations in this manual show only portions of your compound miter saw . This is intentional so that we can clearly show points being made in the illustra- tio ns. Never oper ate your saw witho ut all gu ard s sec ur ely in place and in good operating condition.
16 ASSEMBL Y T ABLE EXTENSION See Figure 11. The table extension can be used on the left side of your miter saw . T o assemble and install the table extension: Insert socket head screw and washer into the two holes in the side of the miter saw base.
17 Depress spindle lock button and replace blade bolt. NOTE: The blade bolt has left hand threads. T ur n blade bolt counterclockwise to tighten. CAUTION: Always install the blade with the blade teeth and the arrow printed on the side of the blade point- ing down at the front of the saw .

19 SQUARING THE BLADE TO THE MITER T ABLE See Figures 19 - 21. Unplug the saw . Pull the saw arm all the way down and engage the lock pin to hold the saw arm in transport position.
20 T o Leave Y our Mark: Position the laser line near the right edge of your mark on the work surface in order to leave the mark. After you have become familiar with using the laser guide, you will be able to remove, cut, or leave your mark on the work surface.
21 OPERA TION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a car eless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict sever e injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operat ing tools.
22 OPERA TION TO CROSS CUT See Figure 23. A cross cut is made by cutting across the grain of the work- piece. A straight cross cut is made with the miter table set at the 0° position. Miter cross cuts ar e made with the miter table set at some angle other than zero.
23 OPERA TION TO BEVEL CUT See Figures 24 - 26. A bevel cut is made by cutting across the grain of the work- piece with the blade angled to the workpiece. A straight bevel cut is made with the miter table set at the zero degree position and the blade set at an angle between 0° and 48°.

Befo re turning on the saw , perf orm a dry run of the cu ttin g operation just to make sure that no pr oblems will occur when the cut is made.

27 OPERA TION Whe n setti ng the bev el and miter angle s for comp ound miter s, remember that the settings ar e inter dependent; changing one angle changes the other angle as well. Keep in mind that the angles for crown moldings are very precise and difficult to set.
