General Database Print Manager Overview Database Print Manager (DPM) is the variable data printing solution of the DDP Server printing system. It is designed to be simple to install and operate, compa.
DPM Installation DPM is installed during the DDP Server in stallation. See the DDP Server User Guide for details of the installation. Basic Steps The basic workflow steps for using DPM are as follows: 1. Select or create a database t o use with DPM 2.
Tags and Field Names A tag in the DPM template represents a placeholder for v ariable data. A tag is identified by an enclosing marker which may be french br ackets like «tag», double brackets like <<tag>> , a single brac ket and brace like <{tag}> or a single brace and bracket lik e {<tag>}.
Creating a DPM Template Preparing a Database It is recommended to first create and fill in data into a d atabase or identify an existing data base to use wit h a DPM job. Ty pe of data supp orted by DP M include text st rings and graphics or im ages. Graphics/ image format s supported include but are not li mited to eps, TIFF and jpg.
After all settings informations have been en tered, select File » Sa ve to save the DPM control file. The t emplate can n ow be viewed an d personalized. Selecting a Database Source The database must be establishe d before crea ting a DPM tem plate. In the Settings dial og of DPM, acr oss from Database, sel ect the Browse butto n.
Select a Type of Data Source (proba bly a user data source). Then select Next . Select the driver for the database source, t hen select Next . Then select Finish . Select the database file and provi de a name and locati on. Click OK . Select the database name fro m Machine Data Source.
Creating a Template Document A DPM template consists of static elements (text, graphics, and images), and variable elements represented by tags. You may creat e a DPM template using any appli cation whic h can layout p ages, e.g. Microsoft Word and Qu ark QuarkXPress.
Viewing and printing a DPM Template Opening a DPM Control File To preview and pri nt a DPM job, double click a DPM cont rol fi l e wit hi n Windows Explor er, or launch DPM an d select File » Open to select a DPM control file.
The DPM Window You can select DPM functions from the p ull down m enus or the to ol bar. Yo u can control what tools a re displayed from the View m enu. The Tool bar allows to switch between the differen t viewing and editing dialogs. The Template bar contains buttons for editing th e template.
DPM Settings To enter the Settings dialog click the Settings button in the tool bar, or select View » Settin gs . The Settings dialog allows you to enter in formation for the control file of the DPM .
Viewing the Database After launching DPM and establishing the data paths you can check the database. Click the Database button in the tool bar, or select View » Data base after completi ng the Settings requirem ents. The da tabase interface displays fiel d names and data recor ds to be use d by the DPM job.
Editing a Template To edit a template click the Template button in the tool ba r, or select Vie w » Template . DPM provides image and text tools to edit a template.
Editing Image Properties Editing images is needed to associate a tag with them. When a DPM template is created, you need to mark images with tags within DPM. It is important to have the correct tag associated with each image. Images can not be substituted correctly if the tag is wrong or missing.
Editing paragraph properties Editing text may be need ed to adjust information abou t alignment and boundaries of para graphs. For proper t ext flow, pa ragraphs nee d to be m arked before pers onalization. T his is done automatically by the built-in parag raph scan of DPM.
• Split to fixed lines – this splits the selected paragraph into sing le lines. Additionally each paragrap h gets the attribute “Fixe d position”.
Previewing Documents To examine the results of merging variable data with the DPM template click th e Preview button in the tool ba r, or select View » Preview . Preview allows yo u to scroll through each document to verify th at data substitution and alignments are correct.
Printing DPM offers three options for printing: • Print the DPM job – this prints all or a subset of the personalized document s. Output is optimized for downloa d and executio n speed. Select File » Print . In the print dialog, select the first and last document instance to be print ed.
Distribution by E-Mail You can distribute a DPM template by E- Mail. In order to do this, DPM will create a PDF file for each rec ord in your database and send it to an addres s given in the database , using your st andard m ail program. To send the template by E-Mail, select File » Send as E- Mail .
