9 2. Faxing Types of Transmission There are two types of transmission. ❖ Memory Transmi ssion When a fax message is stored in memory , then transmission starts automati- cally. It is con venient when you w ould like to take documents back in a hurry.

Faxing 16 2 Very Fi ne Detail Faxing So that text, diagrams and ima ges stand out clearly in yo ur docum ent, the mac hine auto maticall y detec ts the image den sity (contrast) and m akes a comp ensati on. Howeve r, if yo u need to send a docu- ment which requ ires optimum clari- ty, sele ct the resolution setting appropriat e to your needs.
Re cept io n Mode s 17 2 Reception Modes The machine can treat incoming fax messa ges and telep hone calls in three ways. ❖ Auto mode Use th is mode if your lin e is shared by a fax machine and telephone. When a cal l comes in, the mach ine will ring a num ber of times to give you the ch an ce to p ick u p the handset.

Setup Initial Settings and Adjustments Before you connect your machine to the telephon e system, you must enter a few settings and m ake a few adjust- ments . ❖ Own Numbe r : The p hone nu mber used by your fax line. ❖ OWN NAME: This should be yo ur name or com- pany name, in 20 characters or less.

Then just select the group a nd ea ch nu mb er wi l l b e d ia le d i n seque nce automati cally.
Setup 26 3 This section descri bes how to pro- gram or edit a Group. Yo u can also get a printout of numbers that are al- ready stored . In this examp le we will program Group 1 into Quick Dial key 01. A Pre ss { Function } { 3 } { 3 } , and then the { Yes } key.

Setup 28 3 Programming the Group Key You can program 5 g roups. How ever, if there is no ro om in Quick Dial keys, this group key is helpful. You can use Quick Dial 30 or one of User Function keys (F1 or F2) as the group key. How to transmit using the group key, see P.
Enteri ng Characters 29 3 Entering Characters Use the ten key pad for entering num- bers. Use Quick Dial keys 1 to 26 for entering letters, and Quick D ial key 27 for spac es and Quick Dial key 28 for othe r character s. If at any ti me you make a mistake when en tering a character or digit, pre ss th e { Clear } key to eras e it.

31 4. Troubleshooting Loading Paper in the M ain Cassette A Pull out the paper cassette and place it on a flat surface. Note ❒ Remove a ny paper th at may have dropped inside the machine in the area vacated by the p aper ca ssette. B Lift up the cassette cover and remove it.

Communicati on Problems 37 4 Communicatio n Problems If ERROR P RESS STOP appears in the display: Press th e { Stop } key. ERROR PRESS S TOP KEY Causes: • A poor line ca used the c ommuni- cati on to fai l. • The line is noisy. Try to transmit the fax message again.

Soluti ons to Common Problems 47 4 The original is not pulled into the auto document feeder. The dialed number doe s not contain an PS TN access code or a pause. Include th e PSTN access number and a pause before the tele- phone number . The dialed number did not h ave enough pa uses between th e access PSTN number and the telephone number.
Troublesh ooting 48 4 Transmission cannot tak e place; CLEA R ORIGIN AL appears. The d ocum ent is ja mmed in th e fe eder. Remove the jammed document. See P.38 “Clearing a Docu- ment Jam” . The document may be longer than the maximum limit (see Chapter 11, “Document and Paper Specifications”in th e Ad- vanced Features manual).

3 1. Advanced Transmission Features Sending at a Specific Time (S end Later) This feature is calle d Send Later. Using this feature, you can delay transmission of your fax message un- til a spec ified time. Th is allows you to take advantage of off-peak telephone line cha rges with out having to be by the ma chine at the time.
