1 How to Read This Manual Symbols This manual uses the foll owing symbols: Indicates important sa fety notes. Ignoring these notes could resu l t i n s e r i o u s i n j u r y o r d e a t h . 2 Display Panel This section describes configuration us ing the display panel when the printer function is selected. Initial Display Important ❒ The machine switch es to offline when yo u make settings when th e machine is online. After you complete the settin g, the machine switches to online au- tomatically.
3 6. [ Error Log ] Press to display the error logs of print jobs that sent from a computer. 7. [ Spooling Job List ] Press to display spooled jobs. 8. Paper Tray Status indicators The paper tray settings appear. Note ❒ When the power is turned on, the copier display is show n.
4 Job List Jobs printed using Copy, Document Server, or Printer mode are temporarily stored in the machine, and then executed in order. The Job List function allows you to manage these jobs. For example, you can cancel incorrect job settings or print an urgent document.
5 ❖ When [ Job Order ] is selected: The job list is displayed for all fu nctions in the order of print jobs. A Switches between job lists for each function. B Switches between [ Current / Waiting Job List ] and [ Job History ] . C Displays reserved job numbers.
6 Changing the order of jobs You can change the order in which prin t jobs in the j ob list are served: A Press [ Job List ] . B Select the job whose order you want to change. C Press [ Change Order ] . D Change the order using [ Top ] , [ Previous ] , or [ Next ] .
7 Holding print jobs The machine holds jobs that are queued and currently printing. A Press [ Job List ] . B Select the job(s) to hold. C Press [ Suspend Printing ] . Deleting jobs You can delete job that is qu eued or currently printing. A Press [ Job List ] .
8 Checking Job History You can view t he history co ntents of pri nted jobs. A Press [ Job List ] . B Press [ Job History ] . A list of completed print jobs appears.
9 Printer Features Menu The following explains settings and mean ings of functions on Printer Feature. Printer Feature screen a ppears when you press the { User Tools } key.
10 ❖ System Menu Description Print Error Report You can print an erro r report when a printer or memory error oc curs. Auto Continue You can select th is to enable Auto Continue. When it is On, printing continues after a sys- tem error occu rs. Memory Overflow Select this to have a mem ory overflow error report printed.
11 ❖ Host Interf ace ❖ PCL Menu Bypass Tray Setting Priority You can specify which of the two options, (Printer) Driver / Command or Machine Set- tings, has priority for determining the paper size for Multi Bypass Tray (Tray 7). This option is used only when Multi Bypass Tray (Tray 7) is installed.
12 ❖ PS Menu (optional) ❖ PDF Menu (optional) Note ❒ Depending on which optional unit s yo u have installed or the printer lan- guage you have selected, some options are not displayed. ❒ Depending on the security settings , you might not be able to set certain options.

There are two ways to in- stall the printer driver: usin g Quick Install, which insta lls the settings at once, or installing the ap propriate driver according to the po rt you want to us e.

I Click [ Exit ] in the first dialog box of the installer, and then take out the CD- ROM. Note ❒ To stop installation of th e selected software, click [ Cancel ] before instal la- tion is complete.

Using as a NetWare Print Server / Remote Printer 33 1 I Click [ Port: ] , and then click [ Add ] . J Click [ Network Printer ] , and then click [ OK ] . K Double-click the name of the NetWa re file server on the network tree. The created queue is displayed.
Preparing the Machine 34 1 Form Feed Do not use NetWare to configure form feed . Form feed is cont rolled by the print- er driver on Windows. If NetWare fo rm feed is configured, the prin ter may not print properly.
Installing the Printer Driver Using USB 35 1 Installing the Printer Driver Using USB This section ex plains how to in stall printer drivers using USB. Before installing, check that only the op erating system is running on the comput- er and no print jo bs are in progress.

When USB is first used, Found New Hardware Wizard starts, and USB Printing Support is installed automatically.

If the printer driver has already been in stalled, plug and play is enabled, and the icon of the printer connected to the “USB001” port is added to the [ Printers ] window. Note ❒ The number after “USB” varies depend ing on the number of printers con- nected.

Preparing the Machine 40 1 Printing with Parallel Connection This describes how to install the PCL or RPCS printer driver when using the par- allel port. To use a machine connected using a parallel interface, click [ LPT1 ] when install- ing the printer driver.

Restart the computer to complete installation. Note ❒ To stop installation of th e selected software, click [ Cancel ] before instal la- tion is complete.

Other Print Operations 76 3 PDF Direct Print Properties 1. Setting name: Displays the plug-in configuration name (up to 63 single byte characters) 2. Change Icon... Change the icon displaye d on the tool bar. 3. Printer: Displays a list of RPCS drivers that sup- port PDF direct printing.
Unauthorized Copy Control 77 3 Unauthorized Copy Control You can embed patterns and text under printed text to prevent unauthorized copying of the document. Un authorized Copy Control consists of two functions: [ Data security fo r copying ] and [ Mask type: ] .
Other Print Operations 78 3 ❖ Printing a document using [ Data security for copying ] 1. The pattern and text you have set is printed. 2. The document is copied or stored in copiers / multifunction machines which the optional Copy Data Secu- rity unit is installed.
Unauthorized Copy Control 79 3 Using [ Mask type: ] You can embed patterns and text in a document by setting in the printer driver to prevent unauthorized copying. ❖ Setting [ Mask type: ] in the printer driver • Select a pattern from [ Mask type: ] , and then enter text in the [ Text: ] box.
Other Print Operations 80 3 Note ❒ Only the RPCS printer driver is supported. ❒ Printing at 200 × 200 dpi is not possible. ❒ You cannot partially embed patterns and text strings in a document.
Using the Print Job Function 81 3 Using the Print Job Function This describes how to print files stored in the machine. The following types of printing can be selected using t he printer driv er: Sample Print, Locked Print, Hold Print, and Stored Print.
Other Print Operations 82 3 9. [ Delete ] Deletes a selected file. 10. [ Print ] Prints a selected file. 11. [ Change Password ] Changes or deletes the password of a file if a password is set. To change the password, press [ Change Password ] , enter the current password , and then enter the new password on the confir- mation screen.

Other Print Operations 88 3 Deleting Sample Print Files If you are not satisfied with the sample printout, you can delete the Sample Print file, revise it and print it agai n until the settings are suitable. A Press the { Printer } key to display the Printer screen.

Other Print Operations 90 3 D Press [ Print Jobs ] . A list of prin t files stored in the machin e appears. E Press [ Locked Print Job List ] . A list of Locked Print files stored in the machine appears. Depending on the security settings, ce rtain print jobs may not be displayed.
Printing from the Print Job Screen 91 3 G Enter the password using the number keys, and then press { OK } . The print confirmation screen appears. A confirmation screen will appear if the password is not entered correctly. Press [ OK ] to enter the pa ssword again.

Printing from the Print Job Screen 95 3 Note ❒ When printing is completed, the stored file is deleted. ❒ To stop printing after prin ting has started, press the { Interrupt } key until the Printer screen appears, and then press [ Job Reset ] . The f ile is deleted.
Other Print Operations 96 3 Stored Print Use this function to store a file in the machine, and then print it from the com- puter or the machine' s control panel later. Jobs are not deleted after they are printed, so the same job need not be resent in order to print multiple copies.
Printing from the Print Job Screen 97 3 B Click [ Details... ] , and then ent er a User ID in the [ User ID: ] box. You can also set a password. The same password must be entered when print- ing or deleting. You can also set a file name. The file name you set will be displayed on the machine's control panel.
Other Print Operations 98 3 G Select the file you want to print, and press [ Print ] . The confirmation screen appears. If you set a password in the print er driver, a password confirmation screen appears.
