P OLARIZA TION I NSTRUCTIONS – H OUSEHOLD M ODELS 3 Models RSL1 and RSL2 To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance is equipped with a polarized alternating curr ent line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way .
4 The vacuum cleaner handle is packed as a separate component that require s assembly . V ACUUM ASSEMBL Y PROCEDURE Installing the handle: 1. Release the handle bracket from the handle tube by removing the two scr ews (diagram 1). 2. Place handle onto the handle tube, aligning holes with pegs (diagram 2).
5 3. Place the handle bracket back into position (diagram 3). 4. Secure with two scr ews r emoved in step 1. Positioning the power cord: (Models RSL1 only . ) 1. Loosen, but do not r emove, the scr ew holding the upper cord hook (diagram 4). 2. Position the cord between the cor d hook and the vacuum tube (diagram 5).
NOTE: Y our vacuum cleaner will either have the on/of f button on the base of the unit (see diagram 6) or on the vac- uum handle (see diagram 6A). Please note the type of vacuum cleaner you are using when star ting or stopping the machine. On/Of f switch on base: Locate the switch on the back side of the nozzle to the left of the handle tube.
1. Unzip outer cloth bag (diagram 7). 2. Remove used bag by pressing the bag holder tab and pulling bag of f vacuum (diagram 8). Discard used bag. 3. To install new bag, position the bottom of the bag collar into the bag collar holder (diagram 9). 4. Push the top of the bag collar inward until the collar “snaps” into place (diagram 10).
8 CAUTION: First, disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet. To remove bottom plate: 1. After unplugging the power cord, tur n the vacuum cleaner over , exposing the underside. 2. Pr ess the two holding tabs inward (diagram 11) r eleasing the bottom plate.
CAUTION: First, disconnect the vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet. 1. Tu rn the unit over and remove the bottom plate (see "How to Remove Bottom Plate"). 2. Remove the br ush r oll and the wor n or br oken belt from the br ush r oll pulley and the motor drive shaft (diagram 13).
W ARNING: T o r educe the risk of electric shock and injur y from moving par ts, unplug vacuum before cleaning or ser vicing. 1. First r emove the nozzle housing. Tu rn the unit over to expose the underside. Locate the two main nozzle scr ews (diagram 16) and r emove both.
Y our vacuum features a cir cuit breaker to protect the machine against damage due to a sur ge i n the electrical cur rent. Electrical sur ging can be a r esult of, though not limited to, a jammed br ush r oll (i.e. vacuuming up a sock or thr ow r ug) or a jammed motor fan.
• Keep machine clean and in good operating condition. • Change filter bags as recommended to maximize optimal cleaning ef ficiency . • Always use genuine filter bags and replacement par ts. Use of other pr oducts may r esult in poor cleaning per for mance and potential vacuum cleaner damage and may void vacuum war ranty .
