1 Introduction 1 Introduction This manual is provided with the device you have received, a medical ventilator in the VS range. I t does not in any way replace the clinical manual supplied to your physician or HME provid er. There are two mode ls: • the VS Ultra™, whic h is blue • the VS Integra™, whic h is re d .
2 The VS Integra and V S Ultra can both be used with single circuit, but only the VS Ultra model can be used with double circuit. Warnings • This manual mu st be read and understo od in full bef ore the de vice is used.
3 Description of the devic e 2 Description of the device 2.1 Components The picture below sh ows the set of compon ents available from yo ur HME provide r: • Y our de vice • The po w er cable • The circu it • An interf ace (mask or trac heotomy) • The trav el bag .

For instructions on connecting the ox ygen source to the de vice, see “Connecting supplement al oxygen (option al)” on page 18.
8 2.3 Circuit Depending on the ventilati on mode prescribed by your physician, you will be using on e of the f ollowing: • Single circuit • Single circu it with e xpirator y valv e • Double circuit To determine the t ype of circuit prescribed fo r you and how to connect it to the device, see “Co nnecting the circu it” on page 12.
9 Description of the devic e External battery (optional) An ex te rna l ba tte r y increas es the utilisation period away from a mains power supply, and also provides a back-up supply in the event of a power outage.
10 2.5 Device control panel The device control panel compri ses an LCD screen and a keypad. Figure 10: Front view. The buttons on the keypad are listed in the table below. The keypad consists of buttons and LED indicator lights. T able 1: Buttons on device control p anel.
11 Connection procedures 3 Connection procedures Place the device on a flat surface. En sure the area is du st-free, and cleared of any objects that could blo ck the dust filt er. ! CAUTION Be careful not to place the device where it co uld be knocked over or where someone is likely to trip over the power cord.
12 Not es: • If you r device is fit ted with a rec hargeable built-in bat ter y (available as an optional e xtra with the VS Integra), it can be used without a mains pow er supply , with the bat ter y lasting 2 – 4 hours , depending on yo ur set tings.
13 Connection procedures Option 1 – Single circuit 1 . Connect one end of the hor izontally -ribbed t ube firmly to t he air outlet, as sho wn in the Figure below : Figure 12: Connection of single circuit to the device . Now that y our circuit is connect ed to the device, y ou can connect the mask to the other end of the circuit.

15 Connection procedures Now that y our circuit is connect ed to the device, y ou can connect the mask to the other end of the circuit. Option 3 – Double circuit 1 . Firmly connect on e limb of the circuit to the air outlet . 2. Then connect th e other limb .

If your system does not have any acce ssories (external battery, supplemental oxygen), y ou can now switc h your device on , see “Switching on and shut ting down” on page 19 .

18 Connecting supplemental oxygen (optional) The instructions in this section apply only t o the connection of supplemental oxygen to your device. Ref er to the instructions given by your HME provider or installation te chnician for starti ng up the supplemental oxygen flow.

21 Cleaning and Maintenanc e 5 Cleaning and Maintenance We recommend that you maintain your device and accessories regularly. ! CAUTION If you use the following accessories: • Mask • Humidifier .
22 ! WARNING T o avoid an y risk of electric shoc k, never immer se the device or power cable in water . Always unp lug the device before cleaning and be sure that it is dry before plugging it bac k in. ! CAUTION Do not at tempt to open the device casing.
23 T roubleshootin g 6 Troubleshooting Alarms will alert you to any problems with your device. The instructions in this section will help you to identify the cause of t he problem. If the fault persist s or cannot b e identified, do not try to ope n the device , and contact y our HME pr ovider .
24 Lo w pressure alarm (LP) This alarm also indicates a wrongly connected or disconnected circuit. Reconnect the circuit. High pressure alarm (HP) A component in your circuit is bloc ked. Clean, empty or replace the components of your circuit. Contact your HME if this alarm is activated too of te n.
