6 MAKING CONNECTIONS You can c onnec t y our VCP to a TV/moni to r, a VCR (vi de o ca ssette recor der ), or bot h. To help y ou make the r ight co nnections: • If co nne ct ing a TV, use the co nnections descri bed in “Connec ting a St andard TV” on Page 7.
7 Connecting a Standard TV Follo w thes e s te ps to co nnect th e VCP to a st andar d TV that has a 75-o hm ca ble jack (b ut doe s n ot have se para te audio and vid eo inpu t jac ks ). 1. Make sure the TV is off, then discon nect the antenna or cable wire from you r TV’s VHF antenna ter m ina l and conn ec t it to the VCP’s ANT .
8 Connecting a TV/Monitor To conn ect your VCP to a TV/monitor’ s separate au dio an d video input jacks, conne ct t he VCP’s AUDIO and VI DEO OUT jacks to t he TV/m onito r’s aud io and video input jacks using a video- quality shielded ca ble (no t suppl ied).
9 Connecting a VCR To conn ect y our VCP to a VCR so yo u can copy vi deo t apes, c onnec t the VCP’s AUDIO and VIDEO OUT jac ks to the VCR’s audi o and video input jacks using a vi deo-quali ty shielded ca ble (not supplied ). Then see “ Copying a Vide o Tape” on Pag e 18 to find ou t how to copy a ta pe.
10 SETTING THE CHANNEL SWITCH CHANNEL , on the b ack of the VCP, deter mines on w hic h chan nel a s tandar d T V receiv es the V C P’s s ignal . Se t CHANNEL to 3 for channel 3, or 4 for channel 4. Using Vehicle Batter y Power The suppli ed DC a dapte r le ts you powe r your V CP and a po rtabl e TV (n ot sup plied ) from you r vehicl e’s cig ar ette- li ghter socket.
12 Dew Protect ion S ystem Your VCP ’s dew prot ection s ystem helps preven t dam age ca used by moistu re th at can form o n the VCP’s tape he ads. When the system senses moi sture o n the tape he ad(s), the DEW indi cator turns on and the VCP does not let you play a ta pe.

14 OPERATION USING THE REMOTE CONTROL The butto ns on the remo te co ntrol function the sa m e as those o n the front of the VCP. To use the remot e control, be su re t he f ro nt end of it is po inting wi th a cl ear pat h toward the m iddle of the VCP’s f ront panel, then press the desir ed button (s).

16 The VCP automa tica lly st ops th e tap e when it re aches the end a nd re winds the t ape to the be ginni ng. To sto p the tape at any ti m e duri ng fast- for wa rding or re wi nding, pre ss STOP . Or, to stop fast-f orward ing and rewi nding and autom at ical ly beg in pl ay, pre ss PLA Y .
17 FREEZE -FRAME The VCP l ets you st op (“fr eeze”) the tape to view a sing le fr ame. To us e fre eze-fr ame, dur ing norm al pl ay, pr ess STILL on the fr ont pan el. Durin g free ze-fram e, th ere is no sound and the picture q ua lity is not a s g ood as d uring no rmal playbac k.
18 WATCHING BROADCAST TV To watc h broa dcast TV (i f you c onnecte d a TV), press TV/VCP so th e TV/ VCP i ndicat or turns o ff. O r, you can pre ss POWER to turn off t he V CP.

21 CLEANING THE VIDEO HEADS Dirty video heads c an ca use t he VCP’s pict ur e to b e bl ur red during playb ac k , even when the video signa l is cl ear. We recom mend t hat you cl ean t he heads only when s uch pr oblems occur. Fo r prop er head cleani ng, fo llow the instr ucti ons in a head - clean ing k it.
22 REPLACING THE FUSE If t he VCP does not o perate when the DC adapte r is conne ct ed, the fuse insid e the adapte r mi ght be blown. Follow these steps to repl ace it. 1. Unscr ew the kn urle d rin g at the plug ’s tip by tu rning i t coun terc loc kwi se, then turn ove r the ada pte r’s cigarette lig hter plug so the fuse fal ls out.
