4 INSTALLATION BEFORE Y OU BEGIN Your CB’s display is pr otected dur ing shipment by a piece of clear film. Ca re- fully peel off this film before using your radio for the first time. ATTACHING THE MICROPHONE HOLDER You can connect the m icrophone ho lder to either side of the CB or to another lo- cation in your vehicle.
5 Follow these st eps to mount the CB us- ing the supplied hard ware . 1. Using the mounting bra cket as a template, mark the po sitions for t he screw holes on the mounting sur- face. 2. In each marked position, drill a hole slightly smaller than the supplied mounting screws.
6 To disconnect the microphone fro m the CB, unscrew th e locking nut t hen pull out the plu g. Caution: Never pull on the m icro- phone’s cable. CONNECTING AN ANTENNA There are ma ny differen t types of CB antennas for mobile CBs. Each antenna type has its own benef its, so choose the one that be st meets your needs.
7 CONNECTING V EHIC LE BATTERY P OWER Follow these step s to connect the CB to vehicle batte ry power . 1. Connect th e red wire (with the in- line fuse holder) on the bac k of the CB to a ter minal in your vehicle’ s fuse box that has power only when the ignition is in the A CC (acces- sor y) or ON position.
8 Follow these step s to install th e CB as a base station . 1. Mount th e base station ante nna as described in its owne r’ s manual. Warning: Use e xtreme caution when you install or remov e a base station CB antenna. I f the antenna star ts to fall, let it go .
9 OPERATION Before you us e your CB , you should know how to use it effectively and cour- teously. “Com mon Use s for a CB” on Page 12 contains information that will help you get m ore enjoyme nt from your CB. Caution: Do not attempt to u se yo ur CB without first co nnecting it to an ant enna.
10 8. T ur n RF GAIN counterc loc kwise to decrease the incoming sign al strength and pr e vent o v erloading. Or , tur n it clockwise to receiv e the maximum possib le signal . 9. Rotate CHANNEL to select a chan- nel. 10. Adjust VO L U M E to a comfortable lis- tening le vel.
11 To select a wea ther broadcas t, set CB/ WX to WX , and turn CHANNEL to select one of the freque ncies. Set CB/WX to CB to re turn to normal CB operation.
12 Notes: • Because of atm ospheric co nditions, you might enco unter time s when th e signal your radio receives does not contain informatio n relevant to the emergency leve l of the aler t. This is normal. • The radio will sound an alert regard- less of the channel set ting.
13 • Ev er hav e car troub le or run out of gas on the high wa y? What an a ssur- ance it is to be able to call f or assis- tance! • Camping, fi shing, and other spor ts are more fu n with a CB. Locate a bu ddy or fi nd out “what ’ s cooking” back at camp .
14 Here are a few hint s to help you reduce or eliminate such noise : • Mak e all CB po wer and antenna wires as shor t as possible . • K eep the po wer wires a wa y from the antenna wires . • Be sure th e chassis gr ound connec- tion is secure.
15 USING COMMON 10-CODES Citizen’s Band operat ors have largely adopted the 10-codes for stand ard questions and a nswers. These co des permit fast er communi cation and b etter intelligibility in noisy areas.
16 WE ATHER CHANNEL FREQUENCIES Your CB is programmed with th e follow- ing United States weather service chan- nel FM frequencies: Channel Frequency (MHz) WX1 162.
17 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you to have any proble ms with your CB, but if yo u do, the following suggestions might help . If these tips do not solve the problem, do no t attempt repairs or adjustments yourself. The CB should be serviced only by a qualified radio technician.
18 CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your RadioShack TRC-519 4 0-Chan nel M obi le CB Radio is an examp le o f sup erior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your CB so you can enjoy it fo r years. Keep the CB dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
19 REPLACING THE FUSE The TRC-519’s 2-amp in-line f use helps protect y our CB from po wer surges and short circuits. When replacement is re- quired, use a 2-amp, fa st-acting glass fuse, available at your local RadioShack store. Follow these steps to replace the f use.
