4 IN ST ALLA TION MOUNTING THE T RC-488 If you use the TRC-488 as a base st a- tion, you can mou nt it on a des k, shelf, or table. The m ost comm on m ountin g location for the CB is under a vehicle’s dash- board.
5 4. Attach the CB t o the mount ing bracket using the supplied rubber washers a nd moun ting knob s. MOUNTING THE MICROPHON E HOLDER With a P hillips screwdriver and the supplied screws an d washers, attach the suppl ied microph one holder to the CB ’ s r ig ht s id e.
6 CONNECTIONS CONNECTING THE MICROPHON E 1. Make s ure the p ins o n the m icro- phone c able’s plug are al igned with the holes in the CB ’ s MICRO- PHONE jack on the CB’ s le ft sid e and insert the plug into the j a ck. 2. Slide the micr ophone ont o the microphone hold er .
7 CONNECTING POWER Usin g V ehicle Bat tery Pow er Follow these steps to power th e CB from your vehi cle’s battery. 1. Make sure the CB is turned off. 2. Disconnect the cabl e from your vehicle battery ’ s neg ative ( – ) ter- minal. 3. Connect t he black GRO UND wir e to a metal part of your vehicle’s frame.
8 3. Connect t he black GRO UND wir e to the DC powe r supply’s neg ative (–) terminal. 4. Connect bot h the red TO SWITCHED ACCESSORY and orange BA TT + wires, with i n-lin e fuses, to the DC power supply’s positive (+) terminal. These wires supply po wer to op er- ate your CB a nd b ackup t he last- channel m emory .
9 2. Route the cable betwe en the antenna and the CB. 3. Connect the cable to t he ANTENNA ja ck on th e b ac k o f t he CB. Cautio n : Do not run the cab le: • Over sharp edges or m oving parts tha.
10 OPE R A TION SETTI NG SQUELCH Cautio n : Do not attempt to use your CB without f irst conn ecting it to an a n- tenna. 1. T urn VOLUME clockwise until it clicks to turn on the CB, then set it to about halfway betwe en the min- imum and m aximum settings.

16 MAXIMUM RANGE The maximum range and quality of CB transmissions vary dep ending on: • The type an d quality of ant enna used. • The height of t he antenna’s mounting locat ion (the higher the antenna, the better the reception). • The surrounding terrain (mou n- tains and tall buildings limit the range).
