6 IN ST ALLA TION CHOOS ING A LOCATION Select a location tha t is near a modular telephon e jack and an AC outlet. Notes: • Y our T A D-799 conne cts di rectly to a modular telephon e line jack.
7 2. Snap the battery’s terminals to t he connector inside the compartment . 3. Replace the cover . When Lo and th e two-digit num ber of calls in memo ry alternately f lash on the display, replace the battery. When you replace the battery, be sure the TA D is connected to AC power so you do not lose any stored information.
8 CONNECTING T O POWER Insert the supplie d ad apte r’s barrel plug in to the AC 9V jac k on the back of t he TAD. The n plug the A C ada pter’s other end into a standard AC outlet. Cautio n : You must use a Class II power source that supplies 9 volt s AC and d e- livers at least 400 mA.
9 PREP ARA TION SETTI NG THE DA Y AND TI ME Follow these steps to set the day and tim e so t he TAD re cords the c orrec t day and time of the call with each phone messag e. Notes : • T o avoid having to rese t t h e time if AC power is lo st, we recommend you install a battery before you set the day and time.
10 RECORDING THE OUT GO I N G MES S AGE Before you can s et the TAD t o answer calls, you m ust record the outgoing mes- sag e (OGM ) the cal ler hears when t he TAD answe rs a call. Note : The ma ximum out going m es sage lengt h is 60 seconds. 1. Hold down ANNC .
11 BASIC O PERA TION SETTI NG TH E NUMBER OF RING S The ring select switch on t he bottom of the TAD controls h ow l ong the TAD-799 waits before it answers a c all. Slide the switch to the appropriate position. 4 — T he TAD answers after f our rings.
12 RECORDING INCO MING MESSAGES The T AD can record an incom ing me s- sag e of up t o 60 s econd s. I f a rec ording reach es 55 seconds, the TAD beeps onc e to notify the caller that t ime wi ll be up s oon. If the recording reaches 60 secon ds, the TAD beeps three times, then disconn ects.
13 Rep eating Mes sages To review a m essage whi le you are l i s- tening to it, press REPEA T . The current messag e plays from the beginning. To hear t he pre vious mes sage, press and hold REPEA T until t hat message ’s number a ppears. The T AD pla ys the messag e.
14 ERASING M ESSAGES To del ete a spe cific m essage, p ress DE- LETE onc e while the m essage is pla ying. The TAD beep s once and i mmedi ately erases the current m essage, then p lays the ne xt mess age. To eras e all message s, while pl ayback is stopped, hold down DELETE .
15 REMOTE OPE R A TIO N While you are away from your home or office, you can use a touch-t one phone or a pulse (rota ry) phone with a pocket tone dialer (available at your local Ra- dioShack store) t.
16 2. Press SKIP or REPEA T to set t he first digit, then press STOP . The sec- ond digit flashes. 3. Press SKIP or REPEA T to set th e second di git, then pres s STOP . The third digit f lashes. 4. Press SKIP or REPEA T to set th e third digit, then pres s STOP .
17 USING REMO TE COMMAN DS Follow these s teps t o operate the T AD from a t ouch-tone phone or a pulse (ro- tary) phone with a pocket tone dialer. 1. Dial your phone number . 2. When the T AD a nswers, enter your remote operation security code. The T AD be eps o nce to confirm that you entered the correct code.
18 REMOTE COMMANDS Press : T o: 0 Stop playback, recording, and room monitoring. 1 Play the out going m es- sage. 2 Record a new ou tgoing messag e. 3 Monitor the room where the T AD is lo cated for 30 seconds. 4 Play al l message s. 5 Play on ly new m essages .
19 TRO UBLESHOOTI NG We do not expect you to have any proble m s with your TAD-799, but if you do, the following sugg estions might help. Pr ob le m S u gg estion The in coming m essage is inco mp lete . Be sure t he T AD’s memory is no t fu ll. The message was longer than 60 seconds.
