6 PREPARA TION CHOOS ING A LO CATION Select a location for th e TAD that is near a modular telephone line jack and an AC outlet, and is not in the w ay of normal ac ti vi tie s.
7 • T he U SO C nu mbe r of t he j ac k t o be installed is RJ1 1C. Follow t hese ste ps to connec t y ou r T AD to the telephone line and phon e. 1. Unp lug the t elephone’s m odular cord from the modular phon e line jack an d plug it into the TO TEL ja ck on t he bac k of the T AD.
8 Follow these st eps so the T AD can record the c orrect day and time each messag e and m emo is recorded . Note: If you do not complete each st ep within 8 s e conds, the TAD-779 sounds three beeps and exit s from setup.
9 RECORDING THE OUTGOING MESSAGE Before t he T A D can ans wer calls and record messages, you must record an outgoi ng message. Your outg oing mes- sage can be up to 60 seconds long. Hint : Do not tell cal lers you are not home. Inst ead, say that you cannot come to the phone right now.
10 OPE R ATION SETTI NG THE T AD TO ANSWER CALLS After you have recorded an ou tgoing message, you can set the TAD to an- swer cal ls. To set the T AD-779 to answer c alls, press ANSWER . The T AD announce s, “Answer on,” and the ANS WER indica- tor lig h ts.
11 Note : If you answ er the phone just as the TAD answe rs, the TAD might not stop pl aying the outgoing message. If this happen s, press STOP on t he TAD. PLAYING M ESSAGES W hen you hav e new m essages, the PLAY/ SKIP i nd icato r f lashes. To play all the messages, press PL A Y .

13 REMOTE OPERAT ION W hile you are aw ay from your home or office, you can us e a touch-tone phone or a pulse (rotary) pho ne with a pock et tone dialer to enter your remote opera- tion security code.
