4 READ THIS BEFORE INST ALLA TION We have designed your TAD-759 t o conform to federal regula tions, and you can connect it to most telephone lines. However, each device you conn ect to the phone line draws power fr om the line. This power dr aw is the de vice’s ringer equiva lence number , or REN.

6 PREPARATION INSTALLING A BAC KUP BATTERY The TAD requir es AC power to operat e. However, if AC power fails or you un- plug the TAD-759, a 9- volt battery (not supplied) saves the messages, time and day settings, memor y numbers, and the remote opera tion secur ity code.
7 On a Desk T op 1. Plug one en d of the supplied lo ng modular cord into th e TEL. LINE jack on the bac k of the base. 2. Plug the cord’ s other end into a modular phone line jack. 3. Plug one end of t he supplied coiled handset cord int o the jac k at the left side of the base .
8 3. Inser t the supplied A C adapter’ s barrel plug into the AC 9 V j a ck o n t h e bac k of the base. 4. To mount the phone on a wall plate, plug the o ther end of the modular cord into the w all plate jack.
9 1. Set PULSE/TONE on the b ack of the TA D t o TO N E . 2. Lift the han dset and listen f or a dial tone. 3. Press an y number e xcept 0 . Note: If y our phone system requires that y ou dial an access code (9, f or e xample) bef ore you dial an out side number , do not dia l the access cod e either .
10 5. Press ST OP . The T AD shows the cur- rently set m inute. 6. T o change the minutes , repeatedly press SKIP or REPEA T . 7. Press ST OP . The T AD announces the day and time.
11 T ELEPHONE OPERATION Place and answer ph one calls with the TAD-759 as you would with any st an- dard phone. SETTING THE RINGER’ S VO L U M E To change the ringer’s volume, set the ringer volume switch on t he back of the base to LO for a normal ringer volume, or HI for a lo uder ring.
12 USING PRIV ACY To talk to someone else in the room without the person o n the other end of the phone line h earing you, hold down PRIV A CY . R elease it to resu me your telephone conv er sa tion .
13 • F or a prior ity memory location, press P1 , P2 , or P3 . • F or an indirect memor y location, press MEMOR Y , then enter a two - digit memor y location number (01–10).
14 T AD OPERATION RECOR DING THE OUTGOING MESSAGE Before you can set the TAD to answer calls, you must recor d an outgoing m e s- sage (OGM). This is what the caller hears when the TAD answer s a call. Th e outgoing m essage can be up t o 60 sec- onds long.
15 RECOR DING INCOMING MESSAGES The maximum length for each incoming message is 60 seconds. If a recording reaches 55 seconds, the TAD be eps once to notify the caller that time will be up soon. If a recording reaches 60 sec- onds, the TAD beeps th ree times, then disconnects.
16 After all messages play, the TAD says, “End of messages.” To replay a message while you are lis- tening to it, press REPEA T . The current message replay s from the beginni ng. To return to the previous message, hold down REPEA T until its num ber appears.
17 RECOR DING A MEMO A memo is a message you can record at the TAD, without having to call in on the phone. The TAD-759 can record a memo of u p to 60 sec onds long. To record a memo , hold down MEMO . The TAD beeps, and the display begins counting do wn from 60 seconds.
18 REMOTE OPERATION While you are away fr om your home or office, you can use a to uch-tone phone or a pulse (rotary) phone with a pocket tone dialer (available a t your local Ra- dioShack stor e) to .
19 Remote Commands After you pres s 4 or 5 to play messages, you can: Press: T o: 0 Stop pla ybac k, recording, and room monitoring. 1 Pla y the outgoing mes- sage. 2 Record a ne w outgoing message . 3 Monitor the ro om where the T AD is located f or 30 seconds.
20 T ROUB LESHOOTING We do not expect you to have any prob lems with your TA D-759, but if you do, the fol- lowing suggestions might he lp. If you still have problems, disconnect the phone. If other phones on the s ame line work properly, t he fault is in t his phone or its insta llation.
