6 PREPARATION Select a loca tio n for the TAD-70 4 that i s near a modul ar teleph one line jack and an AC outlet, and is not in the way of normal a ctivities . CONNECTING THE T AD Notes: • Y our T AD-704 connects dir ectly to a modular telephone line jac k.
7 When you f irst connec t power, the TAD beeps o nce, MEMORY TEST appea rs, and the message cou nter co unts up from 0 to 22 . Then the TA D beeps . 0 CALL 0 MESSAGE appears . OGM1 and OGM2 flash to ind icate that no out going message s are r ecorded .

10 T AD OPERA TION RECORDING THE OUTGOING MESSAGES Before the T AD-704 c an answer ca lls and rec ord me ssag es, you must r ecord an outgoin g mes sa ge (O G M). The T AD - 704 l ets you record t wo sepa rate me s- sages, and it opera tes differ ently bas ed on which mess age yo u sele ct .

12 • Many local p hone comp anies us e Calling Par ty Control (C PC) to sig- nal that the ca ller has hu ng u p . Y ou r T A D recogniz es a CPC s ignal and releases the l ine. If the T A D reco rds phone com pany m essages or dial tones, your local phone com pany probabl y does no t use C PC.
13 Follow th ese s teps to rec or d a memo up to 60 sec onds long. 1. P ress MEMO (and quickly releas e it). The T AD sounds a long beep, MEMO RECORDING appears, and the timer star ts counti ng.
14 Listen to the cal ler's mes sage throu gh the TAD's sp eaker. T o adju st the vol - ume, sli de VOLUME on the rig ht side of the TAD. If you dec ide to answ er the call, p ick up any phone on the s ame phone line a s the TAD. The TAD stops re cording and resets to a nswer the next call.

It s tor es up to 68 numbe rs onl y o r name and nu mber cal l records in its Caller ID me mory.

20 REVIEWING CALLER I D RECORDS Each time y ou rece ive a call , the T AD- 704 sto res a Call er ID r ecord that you can rev iew later, ev en durin g a call.

If you answer the forwa rded phone cal l, and CONVERSATION ap- pear to i ndicate t he tele phone i s in use . DELETING CALL RECORDS Notes: • The T AD-704 w ill not de lete Calle r ID record s or messages that have not been r eviewed o r pla yed.
22 Note: The s elected VIP call disa ppears from t h e VIP C a ll L is t wh en you d el et e i t. But VIP ma rk still rem ains on th e call when you re view t he Cal ler ID memo- ries. VI P mark on the VIP ca ll does not disappea r unle ss you r emove that call reco rd.
23 USING CALLBACK You must sto re your hom e area code for Callback to work correc tly (see “Setting the Area Code” on P age 8). If the call came from yo ur home area cod e, the display shows on ly the se ven-digit num- ber (witho ut an ar ea code ).

25 RESETTING THE T AD If your TAD st ops worki ng proper ly, use a straighte ned pa per clip to press RE- SET on th e back of the T AD to reset the answering m achine. Note: The out going mes sage and all in- formatio n stored in mem ory are eras ed when you pr ess RESET .
