6 IN ST ALLA TION CHOOS ING A LOCA TIO N Select a location tha t is near a modular telephon e jack and an AC outlet. Your T AD conn ects directly to a modul ar telephon e line jack. If yo ur telephone wiring does not have a mod ular jack, you can update the wirin g yourself or have the telephone com pany upd ate it for you.
7 CONNECT ING T O POWER Insert the supplied adapter’s barrel plug i nto th e AC 9V jack on the bac k of t he TA D. T hen plug the AC adapter’s ot her end i nto a stan dard AC outlet . Caution : On ly use an adapt er that sup- plies 9 volts AC, delivers at leas t 780 milliamps , and h as a plug whi ch properly fits the TAD’s AC 9V jack.
8 2. Snap the battery’s terminals to the connector inside t he compartment . Then pl ace the bat tery inside. 3. Replace the cover When Lo an d the number of calls in memory al ternately flash on the display, replace the battery. Be sure the AC adapter’s cord is plugge d in so yo u do not lose the TAD’s s tored information.
9 PREP ARA T ION SETTING THE DA Y AND TIME The TAD records the day and time of the call with each phone message. Follow these step s to set the day and ti me. Notes : • T o avoid having to reset the day and t ime if AC power i s lost, we rec- omm end you install a backup b at- tery before y ou set the day and time.
10 6. T o change the minutes, repeatedly pr ess REPEA T to move backward or SKIP to move forwa rd to the desired minut e sett in g. Note: T o rapidly change the min- utes, press a nd ho ld REPEA T or SKIP u ntil the desired digits appear . 7. After you set the day of the week , the hou r , a nd the minu tes, p ress STOP t o confirm the settings.

12 BASIC O PERA TION SETTING THE T A D T O ANSW ER CALLS To set the TAD to answer calls, press ANSWER . • If an out g oing message is recorde d, the T AD anno unces, “Answer on,” and the indicator in the call/mes- sage c ounter window lights. • If no out g oing message is recorde d, the T AD says, “Answer off, no announc ement .
13 SCREENING CALLS Your TAD lets you li st en as cal lers l eave mess ages. I f you want t o spea k to a call- er, pi ck up any pho ne on the same l ine and be gin speaking. T he T AD detec ts when y ou pick up the phone and auto- maticall y resets to answe r the next call.
14 Repe ating M essages To review a message while you are l is- tening to it, press REPEA T . The curren t mess age starts again from the b egin- ning. To hear an earlie r messag e, repeatedly press REPEA T until t he desired mes- sage ’s num ber appea rs.
15 DELETING MESSAGES Deleti ng a Sing le Message To dele te a specific messag e, press DE- LETE on ce whil e the message is playing. The T AD beeps once and imm ediately deletes the current message, then plays the n ext mess age or annou nces , “End of mess ages” (if that message was t he last one).
16 RECORDING A ME MO A mem o is a message y ou can rec ord at the TA D, without having to call in o n a phone. You can record a m emo in any of the mailboxes.
17 REMOTE OPE R A TION You can ope rate the TAD from almost any touch-tone phone , or f rom a rota ry phone us ing a pocket tone-di aler (avail- able at yo ur loc al Radio Shack store).

The T AD beeps and the third digit flashes. 4. Press SKIP or R EPEA T to se t t h e third digit , then press ST OP .
19 USING REMOTE COMMANDS To use rem ote com mands, you mus t enter the remo te operation security code within 8 seconds a f ter the T AD answers t he call. After the TAD be eps once to v erify you entered the cod e correc tl y, you can enter the nu mbe r(s) for the function(s) y ou want t he TA D to pe rf or m .
20 Note: The TAD sounds a 3-tone beep if you press a wrong button. After you press 41 , 42 , 43 , or 44 (to play all messa ges), or 51 , 52 , 53 , or 54 (to play new messages ), you can enter the following comm ands.
