5 PREP ARA TION CHARGING T HE BA TTER Y P ACK The MTX-103 operates on a b uilt-in re- chargeable bat tery pack (supplied). Y ou m us t c ha rg e th e b at te ry p a ck w ith the supplied battery charger b efore you use i t the first time an d when BAT lights steadily.

The charger does not operat e at all at temperatures b elow 32° F or above 1 13°F . • Never use any ot her charger to recharge the transc eiver’s ba ttery pack.
7 USING AN EARPHON E To listen privately or to hear better in a noisy area, rem ove the pl ug from the SPK jack on the ri ght of t he t ransceiver and plug a monaural earphone (su ch as Cat. No. 33-175) into t he jack. T hi s automatical ly disconne cts the internal speaker.
8 OPE R A T ION RECEIVING 1. T urn SQUELCH fully counterclock - wise. 2. T urn on the radio by turning VOL- UME clockwise. Adjust VOLUME to the de sired listen ing level.
9 7. The USA/ INT’ L switc h must be set to USA if you are in United Stat es waters. If you are outside the USA, set the switch t o INT’ L . Although the chann el numbers are the sam e, the frequenc ies are different for USA and international channels.
10 TR ANSMI TTING When ma king a call using a m arine transceive r, you must follow these call- ing procedures. • Channe l 16 is t he univers al calling and safety channel. Leave the radio set to Ch annel 16, unless a call is in progress on a dif f erent channel.
