6 IN STALLATION SELECTI NG A LOCATION You can set the ET-908’s bas e on a flat surface (such as a des ktop or counter-top), moun t it on a m odul ar jack wall plate, or mount it dire ctly on the wall. The b ase’s location affects the phone’ s range.
7 MOUNTING THE BASE ON A W ALL Using t he supplied m oun ting bracket, you can m oun t the ET -908’s base on a phone jack wall plate or d irectly on the wall. To prepare the bracket for m o unting, twist off t he t a bs attached to t he center of the bracket and press them securely into the holes on the na rro w end of the bracket.
8 4. Press the AC cord into the top and bottom grooves o n t he left side of the bracket, press the modul ar cord into the center groove o n t he right side o f the b racket, then plug the modular cord into the m odular phone ja ck.
9 Mo un t i ng D ir e ct l y on th e Wal l Using a drill (not supplied) and the su p- plied screws and s pacers, y ou can easily mount your ET-908 directly on the wa l l. 1. At the desired mounting location, drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches apa rt, one above the other .
10 6. Press the AC cord into the top and bottom grooves o n t he left side of the bracket, press the modul ar cord into the to p and bo ttom grooves on the rig ht s ide of the bracket, then plug the modul ar cord into a modular phone jack.
11 PREPARA TION INSTALLING TH E BATTERY PACK To install the supplied rechar geable battery pa ck, place it on the ba ttery compartment tracks, then sli de it up (toward the antenna) unt il it locks in place. Note : Y ou must charge a new ba ttery pack at least 24 hours bef ore you u s e it the f irst time.
12 Notes: • If the CHA RGE indicator doe s not light or blinks continuously when you place the h andset on the cra- dle, be sure the battery and AC adapter are correctly and securel y connected. A lso, c heck the cha rg- ing conta cts on both the h ands et and base .
13 SETTI NG THE PULSE/ T O NE SWITCH Set PULSE/TONE for th e type of service you have. I f you are not sure which type you hav e, do this t est. 1. Set PULSE/TO NE to TONE . 2. Press TA L K on the h andset and listen for a d ial tone. The in dicator above TA L K turns on.
14 T urning On/Off th e Rin ger The ET-908 ’s ha ndset is pres et to ring when a c all comes i n. To turn off the ringer, follow t hese steps. 1. Press PROG .
15 OPE RATION Imp ort a n t : If you move the hands et outside the bas e’s range, the hands et will not operate properly and a call in progress m ight be disconne cted (see “Troubleshooting ” on Page 2 1). MAKING/AN SWERING CALLS To make a call, simply l ift the hands et and press TA L K .
16 USING REDIAL To r edial the last number dial ed, press TA L K t o get a dial tone , then press RE- DIAL . T he phone au tomatically dials the la st num ber d ialed. USING HOLD To place a call on h old, simply press HOLD . The T ALK in dicator flashes to remind you that the call is on hold.
17 USING FLASH You can use FLASH to produ ce a switchhook signa l for special phone serv i ces, su ch as call waiting. If you have call waiting, press FLASH to t ake an incoming call without disconne cting th e current call. Press FLASH again to re tu rn t o t h e fi r st ca ll .
18 CHANGING CH ANNELS The ET-908 con tinuously sca ns 10 channels (frequency pairs used b e- tween the base and the handset ) and automatically selects the one with the least interference each time yo u ma ke or receive a c all.
19 • For security purposes, we rec- ommen d that you do not sto re private numbers , such as per- sonal identification numbers or passwords. • If you have pulse service and want to use tone dialing, enter TON E at the approp riate place in the number seque nce.
20 Dial ing a Sto r ed Num b er To dial a numbe r stored in memory, when you hear the dia l tone, press MEM t h en th e desired mem ory loca- tion numb er ( 0 - 9 ). Note: If you se lect a memo ry location number that does not have a phone number sto red in it, the phone bee ps once.
