7 PREP ARA TION INST ALLING THE BA TTER Y Before you us e your phone for the first time, you m ust install and charge the battery. To insta ll the ba ttery, slide off the bat- tery compartment cov er on the back of the handset, connect the battery’s plug to the pins insi de the com partment, and place the battery inside t he com- partment.
8 • If the C H AR G E /T AL K in d ic at or does not light wh en you place the handset on the c radle, be sure the battery is connected to t h e pins inside th e battery compartment and the AC a dapter is securely connected to the base. Also, check t he charging c ontacts on the handset and bas e.
9 OPE RA TION Your ET-532’s L CD display shows telephon e numbers as you dial them or when you rec a ll them f ro m memory. It shows the current channel number and lets you know when battery po wer i s growing weak or the phone is out of range of the b ase.

13 5. Pull out t he memo ry index card at the bottom of the base. Write the person’s or company’s name and index num ber on the sheet in pe n- cil (in case you wa nt to cha nge it later).

18 REPLACING THE BA TTER Y If you follow the inst ructions in “Cha rg- ing the Battery, ” the supplied ba ttery should last for about a year. Whe n the battery loses its ability to fully ch arge, ord er a 3 .6 volt , 300 mi llia mp ba tte ry with a c onnector that fits the connector in the batt e ry compartment.
