3 FEA TURES Y our R adioShac k ET-153 Super Li ghtweight Headse t T elephone is a comp lete t elephone with a headset and a dialer that con nects to your tel ephone line. The ET-153’ s headset lets you keep you r hands free to do ot her t hings while you ta lk on the pho ne.
4 Hold Button — lets you put a cal l on hold. Flash — sends a time d electro nic switc hhook s ignal fo r use w ith specia lized te lephon e servic es, such as Cal l W aiti ng. Ringer OFF/ ON — lets you turn the ringer on or of f. Redial — lets you redial t he last num ber dialed with the touc h of a button.

Howeve r , each de- vice yo u connect to the phone line draws power fr om it. We refer to this pow er draw as the device’ s ringer eq uivalenc e number , or REN.

7 Prepar ation Connecting to the Phone L ine 1. Plug one end of the su pplied m odular cord into the tel ephone line’ s modul ar jack. Then pl ug the other end in to the ET-153’ s TEL . LI N E j ack. 2. Plug the heads et’s mini plu g into the HEADSET j a c k o n t h e bac k of the E T-15 3.
8 Adjusting the Headset 1. Place th e headset over ei ther ear . 2. Adjust th e head set band until it rest s with a lmost no pressure on your ear and the top of your head . If the h ead se t is loo se , rem ov e it a nd a djust i t inw a rd s lig htl y to tighten it.
9 4. Route th e headset’ s mod ular cord throu gh the l apel clip ’s channe l and attac h the lapel clip to y our cl othing. Le ave enough s lack in th e cord so you ca n move your h ead with - out pu lli ng th e hea dse t.
10 Setting the Dialing Mode Set TONE/PULSE for the type of servic e you have. If you ar e not sure which type yo u have , do this simple t est. 1. Set TO NE/ PULSE on t he sid e of the d ialer to TONE . 2. Press T ALK/HANG UP so its indi cator light s and l isten for a d ial tone.
11 4. If yo u have pul se se rvice , set TONE/PULSE to PU LSE . If you hav e t one se rvi ce, le ave TONE/PULSE set to TO NE . T urning the Ringer Off/On Y ou can se t RINGER to OFF or ON . With RINGER set to OFF , the di aler does n ot ring , but you can stil l mak e outgoi ng ca lls.
12 Using the Belt Clip Use th e ET-153’ s belt cl ip to ha ng the d ialer on yo ur waistb and so you can carr y the d ialer w ith yo u as yo u move a round . T o r emove the belt clip f rom t he E T- 153, press the belt clip’ s tab and slide i t of f in the dire ction of the a r- row .
13 Operatio n Initiating the Switchhook Y ou m ust initi ate the s witchho ok function the fi rst time y ou use you r ET-153, an d anytim e you ca nnot ge t a dial to ne. T o initiate th e switchh ook functi on, hold down T ALK/HANG UP for 2 secon ds.
14 Placing a Call 1. With your hea dset on, pre ss T ALK/HANG UP so the green indi- cator li ghts. T hen liste n for a dia l tone. 2. Dial t he numbe r you wa nt to ca ll. 3. T o end the call , press T ALK/HANG UP . The green indicato r turns of f. 43-891B.
15 Setting the V olume VOLUME lets you adjus t the v olume yo u hear throug h the he adset. This is especi ally useful fo r peop le who a re hearing impa ired, or when y ou encou nter po or phone l ines or especi ally nois y areas.
16 Using Hold T o place a c all on hold , press HOLD . The red indica tor lights to show that the call is still on the line. T o release a c all f rom hold, press T ALK/HANG UP or pick up an ex tensio n phone o n the sam e line. When you place a cal l on hold, you can discon nect the heads et from the dial er if you ne ed to st ep aw ay .
17 Using Flash FLAS H provides t he elec tronic equiv alent of a sw itch hook signa l, re- quir ed by so me tel ephon e serv ice s, such as Cal l W aiti ng. For exam ple, if you have Call W aiting, you can p ut your curre nt call on hol d and t ake a nothe r inc oming call b y pres sing FLASH .
18 Using Redial T o dial th e last num ber di aled, pres s T ALK/HANG UP , then REDIAL . Notes: • If you get a busy signa l, you can pr ess REDIAL again with out press ing T ALK/HANG UP . • If t he ph one line has C all Waitin g or r equi res extr a time to ge t a dial to ne, on e-touch re dial might no t work.

In areas with low telephon e vo ltage, the ET-153 might not op erate wh en other p hones a re act ive on t he sa me li ne.
