8 Preparation 2. Connect the supplied ba ttery charger ’s barrel plug to the CHG jack on the side of the Ni -MH bat- tery pack, then i nsert the battery charger ’s plug into a standard AC outlet. 3. T o install the Ni-MH ba ttery pack, slide it onto the wa lkie-talkie unti l it clicks.
9 Preparation 5. Snap the halves of the battery case together to close it, then slide the case onto the walkie- talkie until it clicks. Caution: The battery case fits onto the walkie-talkie only one way .
10 Preparation Cautions: Y ou mus t use a regu- lated Class 2 power source that supplies regulated 12V DC and del ivers at least 2.5A. Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the walkie-talkie’s 12V DC PWR jack. Using a power cord that does not meet these spe cifica- tions could damage the walkie- talkie or the adapter .

Note: If you transmit while the walkie-talkie is displa ying a weather alert (see “Understand- ing Dig ital W eather Ale rt” on Page 15), the alert tone turns off and WX flashes. T o turn off the alert tone without transmitting, press ALERT OFF .
14 Operation SCANNING THE CHANNELS You can set the walkie-talkie so it scans the CB or weather channels, stopping when it receives a strong signal. Press CB/WX to select the desire d band, then hold down SC AN for about 2 seconds. SCAN appears, and the scanner scans through all ch annels in the selected band.
15 Operation Understanding Digital Weather Alert Notes: • The scanner does not d isplay the actual location referenced by SAME messages. It uses only the message portion of the SAME signal. • If severe we ather threate ns, do not wait for an alert tone; turn on the weather broadcast and moni- tor the weather information.
